“I temper my work in the classics, but really find myself in the suspension of the unfamiliar… forging textures that play with light and shadow.” - Jasmine Rae
As stylists, we look for creations that push boundaries and redefine limits - spectacles of design that allure and inspire. In a market overwhelmed with cakes sharing a singular aesthetic, Jasmine Rae Cakes' creations are inherently unique. Inspired by the impossible beauty of imperfect surfaces, expect textural finishes reminiscent of timeworn facades and raw marbled patinas. An homage to progression, Jasmine Rae Cakes are stunning explorations of chipped finishes and curled edges, of beautifully abstract dilapidation.

While weddings cakes is possibly the scariest area of your planning to research, we recently stumbled across the delicately beautiful cakes of Queensland based Dot & Roy! Whimiscal blooms adorn rustic cakes of unexpected and decadent flavour pairings...Think pistachio & rosewater and apple and salted caramel.

Combining a wonderfully free-hand, freshly plucked from the garden elegance, cake maker Gillian Bell, our latest discovery and addition to The LANE directory, bakes truly unique creations. We are so in love with her hand touched, gorgeously imperfect aesthetic…which any bride who has been hunting recently for a wedding cake, will understand is a remarkably rare and beautifully unique characteristic in this arena!
We were so enchanted learning about the process, the love and the unparalleled attention to detail Gillian pours into each creation, elevating 'local', 'fresh' and 'organic' to unbelievable artisan-like levels...
Beginning with the best raw ingredients available, this is a cake maker who has shares in local Jersey cows, (who graze on only organic pastures), and provide her with a fresh supply of superior cream, milk and butter! Also a green thumb, Gillian tends to her own postage stamp sized garden, offering up a bounty of edible fresh flowers and fruit, for the conserves and fillings used in each flavour. Her passion for baking 'real cakes', is infectious, sharing with brides, in the lead up to their wedding, the farm and origin details of every local ingredient sourced!
Importantly, and often overlooked, Gillian pours as much energy into recipe and flavour design, as the finished aesthetic and presentation, working with couples to develop unique flavour profiles (think fig & violet, strawberry & elderflower or blackcurrant & white chocolate). She can also help with an antique cake stand, or brides may like to have one commissioned especially to best showcase the finished cake design!
