Luminous skin, perfect complexions and barely-there makeup, combined with effortlessly styled hair is a bridal look that we find ourselves repeatedly going back to. So we are always on the look out for talented artists, who have perfected this 'trickier than it looks' style.
If you too are drawn to a fresh and youthful style and are looking for an artist to create a total look for you, one of our favourite brands to recommend is Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Alana Mevissen. We love the idea of having Alana do both your hair and makeup, to create a total look that reflects your personal style.
Working with luxury products and an expert at cleverly using nude shades, contouring and highlighting, Alana's bridal work is perfect for brides who don't want to be hidden under thick foundation, but still want their makeup to last all day. If you are after something with a bit more drama and edge, her background in editorial is perfect for translating high-fashion trends and making them work for brides.
Alana Mevissen is based in South East Queensland, Australia. Visit her official website to see more of her stunning bridal work.
Here are some of our favourite natural looks created by Alana and you can see her tips for acheiving this look under the photo gallery…
We asked Alana to share some of her expert beauty tips with us...
The "I look like this when I wake up" Look
"I find the one thing that makes all the difference to a face when applying makeup is contouring and highlighting. The change is mind-blowing when done correctly. I work on making your skin look flawless, yet natural, hide the bits no one needs to see, accentuate the cheekbones and highlight different spots on your face to give you a gorgeous glow. False lashes and/or and nice liquid winged liner can give a bit of drama without looking overdone. Beautiful, effortless, glowing - everything a bride should be.
When a natural, modern, romantic hair style is requested, the main thing I work on is changing the texture of your hair to give that effortless look; The "done but not done" look. Once I have the required texture the styles are limitless. Out and wavy, the beachy look, all different types of loose braids, modern french rolls, messy buns and the list goes on. I give brides a look seen in fashion magazines at the moment not bridal magazines in the 90's."

Possessing a flawless technique and an amazing talent for achieving varied makeup looks, coupled with the fact that she is the artist behind some of our favourite Russh Magazine editorials, we know you will love the work of Karissa McLaren, our latest handpicked makeup artist for The LANE Directory.
What we love about Karissa's work is that when you look through her portfolio and the varied looks she has created, you can see just how fresh, versatile and personalised her approach to bridal makeup is. Blending her style and background in high-fashion to suit the complexion and personal style of the bride she is working with. Think no makeup makeup and subtly bold brows for the bohemian bride, warm luminous skin with bronze contours for the summer bride or a refined lick of black eyeliner paired with soft metallic lids for a glamourous aesthetic. If you have a particular look in mind or want to ensure your makeup is YOU, we can't recommend Karissa enough!

TUESDAY TIP: (Makeup): Liv Lundelius (NSW Australia)
"Look after your skin!...
"Your skin is the largest organ and it will reflect your health and lifestyle.Improving your skin doesn't happen over night, allow enough time before the big day to address any issues as early as possible. Get holistic advice and prepare to make changes in nutrition as well as adapting skincare and treatments. If your skin is already good, don't get tempted to experiment with it. Never try out new skincare products or treatments shortly before your wedding. Try everything you wish to use on your skin months before to avoid any allergic reactions.
"Now is not the time to experiment, I have seen brides that tried a new brow bar or spray tanning place or facial which did not give them the results they hoped for. I don't want to scare anyone but i's better to be safe than sorry. The better your skin is the more natural & the better your makeup will look on the day. All the time invested will pay off with that amazing glowing skin! "
