Johanna Johnson Fall 2015 Bridal

Evoking visions of darkly decadent city nights, the Johanna Johnson Fall 2015 Bridal collection shown at Parlor – a members only club in Soho, awakened a longing for 1920’s New York - the opulence, the glittering paillettes, the beaded dresses, the embellished textures and the magnetic spirit and air of independence of a women who controls her own destiny.

The collection blending signature 1920’s grandeur and old Hollywood glamour with modern accents, like double front slits, geometric tailoring in ivory and black, use of red satin and daringly low backs! While iconicly Johanna Johnson, the collection had some bold and unexpected new additions. There was her instantly recognizable satin, slip-style gowns (that perfectly fit the female form), trailing elegantly behind and her signature accents of heavy embellishment (at times all-over in gold and heirloom silver), but there was also ethereal layers of tulle in oyster hues that had little in the way of adornment. These evoked more of a whimsical, garden party mood!

While this collection and these theatrical gowns don’t speak to the barefoot bohemian or the chic minimalist, those with a love of art-deco, or those whose style references old Hollywood, will find some perfect pieces in the collection. These are dresses that need an occasion and a venue to match - an heirloom mood that is carried right through to the intimate details of your reception. A wedding in a dilapidated old mansion, time worn and decaying, hosting a lavish celebration of champagne and stars comes to mind.

The pieces that stood out for The LANE were the simpler satin gowns, whose beauty and drama was in their majestic movement, rather than colour or added details. Soft satin that draped regally behind was all that was needed. We also loved the mood of ephemeral magic, created by the movement of the swaying tassle beads on the fully embellished skirts and capes.

The dark mood of the 20’s was extended on with a deep plum, stained lip, pinned up do’s, bird cage veils, layers of pearls and fur shrugs. For a more understated and timeless glamour and a look that just hints at art-deco, we would recommend pairing back the styling and making these gowns more personal to your own style.

Johanna Johnson is stocked in some of the world's most renowned bridal boutiques and department stores; including Mark Ingram Atelier in New York, and Browns Bride in London.
