WEDDING LOCATION: Windview Farm, Carool NSW. Sarah’s childhood home that’s situated in Northern NSW, close to the QLD border on 18 acres of farm land and rainforest.
THEME/STYLE: Relaxed, bohemian farm wedding.
BUDGET: Now I know why everyone says if you’ve got a budget, double it! We just highlighted those elements that were most important to us, like food and entertainment and made sure our budget reflected this accordingly. My excel spreadsheet was my best friend during planning, helping me to keeps tabs on what I’d paid etc.
PHOTOGRAPHY: We knew Nat McComas would be our wedding photographer from early on. Having worked with Nat for the last four years we didn’t consider anyone else. Nat is the most easygoing photographer I’ve ever worked with. Her personality and style were perfect for our wedding. On the day Nat was calm, relaxed and one of our wedding guests! Nat has given us a beautiful gift of so many amazing images, memories that will last for ever and we can’t recommend her enough. We’ve received so many comments from people that her photos are the best they’ve every seen!
BRIDE’S DRESS: I knew what I wanted and had an idea in my head from day one. After an unsuccessful shopping trip, I contacted local designer Megan Ziems from Grace Loves Lace and came up with my dress in about 15 minutes. I had one fitting and then picked the dress up. It was perfect. My dress is now being sold at Grace Loves Lace as the ‘Sarah’ Dress.
(Interview continues under gallery...)

CEREMONY DÉCOR: Hay bales covered in vintage crochet rugs, underneath the shade of a large tree, with a streamer curtain backdrop. The aisle was lined with wildflower bouquets in flasks. Maddy Zanatta entertained guests and after the ceremony guests through confetti from our programs and toasted with champagne.
RECEPTION DÉCOR: Two long tables, lined with amber bottles filled with gypsophilla and carnations. Mix matched napkins from BHLDN, brown paper menus pegged to napkins and vintage style disposable cameras on each table. Simple and effective. An open air dance floor with fairy lights above and large 3ft white balloons lining the dance floor and route the marquee.
CAKE: Sarah’s Mum Di made a three-tier white chocolate and honeycomb, malted caramel and Mississippi mudcake, covered in milk chocolate hearts.
ENTERTAINMENT: Music was an important part of our day, as it is with our lives. We had seen Maddy Zanatta sing at TVM (The Village Markets) a million times and knew she’d be perfect for our wedding day. Maddy sang whilst guests arrived, as I walked down the aisle and after the ceremony. Songs included ‘At Last’ by Etta James, ‘You & Me’ by Penny and the Quarters and other soul classics. For the reception we booked The Deal… a trio including Samoan Idol Runner Up Kalvin Vega. Kalvin read the crowd superbly and had everyone up on the dance floor.

CELEBRANT: Our celebrant Doreena Scales was perfect. We received so many comments after the wedding about how she suited our day. Anything goes with Doreena and that’s what we liked most about her. She was relaxed and super lovely. Doreena’s favourite line was.. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my privilege to present to you for the very first time as husband and wife and best friends for life, Jared & Sarah.
We included a hand blessing at the end as well.
“Now join your hands, and with your hand’s your hearts.
These are the hands of your best friend. They are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever.
These are the hands that will work alongside yours as together you build your future.
These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.
These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief wracks your mind.
These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.
May these hands always reach out with love, tenderness and respect.
May these hands continue to build a loving relationship that lasts a lifetime.”
ANY OTHER SPECIAL DETAILS: We DIY- ed a lot of elements… we didn’t really want to go over the top and ordered lots of bits and pieces from Koyal Wholesale. We made the streamer curtain, the programs, menus, place cards, honey jars and Sarah’s Mum made the cake.
SOURCES OF INSPIRATION: We wanted to create a relaxed, outdoor party and used many blogs to gather ideas and inspiration.
A MEMORABLE MOMENT: The ceremony was magical… its not often you look at one another and don’t hear a word of what’s going on around you. It was surreal… It was definitely amazing to have our Kiwi friends and family meet the Aussies, something that’s been a long time coming.
BEST ADVICE FOR PLANNING A WEDDING/TO BRIDES: Do it your way… we found that our day was perfect as it only included the elements we wanted in it. We did away with some big traditions like the grand entrance, bridal table etc. We were super relaxed and got to spend the night with all of our family and friends and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Congratulations to Sarah & Jared from The LANE! And a huge thank you to Nat from Natalie McComas Photography for these beautiful images! You can view more of Natalie's amazing work on her website & blog.
