HOW WE MET: At church - Reece was friends with my older sister and when I was thirteen I started tagging along.I knew he liked me but I told my sister that if he asks, I don’t want a boyfriend. He did ask, and she told him that if he waits I would come around eventually. And wait he did! We finally got together when I was seventeen – the rest is history!
OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY: He took me to our favourite place – the top of a mountain. It was simple and perfect. One of our family friends is an amazing jeweller, Reece worked with her to design my perfect ring.
MARRIAGE TO US MEANS: Doing life with your best friend.
WEDDING LOCATION: New Zealand. The ceremony was held in a beautiful church, and the reception was at my parents house. It was so special to celebrate our marriage at the place I grew up.
PHOTOGRAPHY: Lene Photography. Lene and Victor were amazing on the day, and they captured it perfectly. We booked them because of the romantic style and amazing light in their images.
BRIDE’S DRESS: My dress is Anna Sui from BHLDN. It was the most beautiful dress I had ever come across. I was finding it hard to find a dress in New Zealand that I loved, so I went online. It was the perfectly different to any other dress I had ever seen and so ‘me’.
(interview continued under gallery)
BRIDE’S SHOES: Gold Jo Mercer heels. But, for most of the day I was running around in my bare feet!
BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES: All three of my bridesmaids have very different styles, and I didn’t want to force them to wear something they didn’t like. So I chose a navy fabric and they chose the style. We had them made by a local dressmaker.
BRIDESMAID’S SHOES: Any gold shoes they wanted.
JEWELLERY/ACCESSORIES: I don’t usually wear a lot of jewellery so I only wore pearl drop earrings. For the ceremony I had an ivory cathedral veil. I love the tradition and symbolism of a veil.
WEDDING RINGS: Our jeweller Lynaire made my engagement ring and our wedding rings. My engagement ring is a solitaire diamond with a gold leaf design either side. Our wedding bands are just simple hammered yellow gold.
GROOMSMEN ATTIRE: Reece had a military style jacket made, and the groomsmen wore a grey shirt and black jeans. It was simple and casual.
HAIR and MAKEUP: I had my hair up, and my makeup natural
STATIONERY/INVITATIONS: My sister (and maid of honor) Leah is a graphic designer and she did all the stationary. We were inspired by an antique star map poster that showed the stars during each season. We went online and looked up what the star map for the night of our wedding. Leah used this as the base of our stationary design. It was perfect because the night sky was so clear that night, I remember looking up and being blown away by the thousands of stars above us.
FLOWERS & BOUQUETS: I didn’t want anything fancy for my bouquet, so on the morning of our wedding my Dad climbed to the top of our Magnolia tree to pick the perfect flower. One simple white magnolia went perfectly with my dress and veil. The bridemaids just had bouquets of white roses that I had made the night before.
PREPARATION: I got ready at my parents home with my family and bridesmaids. I was so excited on our wedding morning and I couldn’t sleep so I got up at 5.30!
CEREMONY DÉCOR: The church we were wed in was so beautiful that we didn’t need to decorate it.
RECEPTION DÉCOR: The reception tent was so beautiful alone we didn’t need to do much. For the centre pieces I potted plants in terracotta pots that I had roughly gold leafed and I hand painted all 130 of the place cards. We named our tables after magical places like Hogwarts, Rivendell, and Platform 9¾.
My dad hired a million fairy lights that we hung in the trees, it looked so magical as it got darker.
CAKE: We had a wedding pie instead of a cake. Chocolate pie!
WEDDING SONGS:For the processional we played Sweet Disposition by the Temper Trap. The ministry song was the first thing we decided on when we got engaged. It is a song called The Weight by Thrice. The lyrics are what marriage means to us and were also our vows. For our recessional we had Falling in Love by Falling up
FOOD & BEVERAGES:The local restaurant Clevedon Café catered the reception, we had yummy breads and dips for starters, then Eye Fillet steak, roast vegetable salad, herbed baby potatoes and green beans. For dessert we had merangues, berries and chocolate brownies.
TRANSPORT: Chevrolet Impala
HONEYMOON: We went to Queenstown for our honeymoon and stayed in the most beautiful house overlooking the lake. It was magical. Reece planned the entire honeymoon and I had no idea where we were going! We spent our days reading and exploring Queenstown.
CELEBRANT: Our church minister Mark Chapman married us, he made the ceremony so lovely.
READINGS: Our vows were the central part of our ceremony and were taken from our ministry song. Because The Weight is one of our favourite songs, we know the lyrics by heart. On the day we didn’t need to read off paper and we will always remember our vows.
Come what may, I won’t abandon you, or leave you behind
Because love is a loyality sworn, not a burning for a moment.
And come what may, I will be standing right here by your side, I won’t run away though the storm’s getting worse and there’s no end in sight.
Storms will surely come, but true love is a choice you must make you you are the one that I have set my heart to choose.
As long as I live, I swear I’ll see this through.
A MEMORABLE MOMENT: Our vows.
IF I COULD GIVE OTHER BRIDES TO BE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE…You’re marrying the love of your life – your best friend! So if something goes wrong it doesn’t matter. If everything went wrong, but I still got to marry Reece. Then it would have been a perfect day.
