HOW WE MET: We were introduced by a mutual friend at a bar in Brisbane.

OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY: We spent Easter at Mark’s family farm in northern NSW. Mark made a few feeble attempts to get Katie out of the house over the weekend in an attempt to pop the question. Katie was reluctant due to an apparent mosquito plague! On the last morning before we headed back to Brisbane we went to see the the wheat that was just starting to peek through the soil. That’s where Mark popped the question.

MARRIAGE TO US MEANS: Marriage means friendship, the deepest trust, honesty, laughter, love… and a commitment to share the rest of our lives with each other (the good and the bad).

WEDDING LOCATION: Both the ceremony and recepetion were held at Katie’s parents place in Pullenvale in western Brisbane. We didn’t really consider anywhere else. We wanted the wedding to have a very personal feel and didn’t think any other venue would offer that (and be practical for all of our guests).

THEME/STYLE: We wanted the day to be fairly informal and relaxed with a bit of a country feel.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Feather and Stone. Seth and Tenielle from Feather + Stone were wonderful. Possibly the two hippest people we have ever met. Victoria told us they would be perfect and she was totally right. Rather than being a distraction on the day they really added to the atmosphere and fun for us and made us feel completely relaxed. We knew the photos would be amaing  but they are even better than we expected!

(interview continued under gallery...)

BRIDE’S DRESS: Katie wanted to wear an Australian designer and chose a classic style ivory one-shouldered Lisa Ho dress.

BRIDE’S SHOES: Glitter Jimmy Choo’s

BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES: Blush Alexander McQueen dress with low cut front and back.

ACCESSORIES: Katie’s earings were also from Lisa Ho.

WEDDING RINGS: Katie’s wedding band was designed to match the band of her engagement ring, with pave set diamonds over the top side. Mark’s wedding band was a simple but classic white gold band.

GROOM/GROOMSMEN ATTIRE: Both the Groom and Best Man wore custom shirts from The Cloak Room. Mark also wore a custom-made suit from The Cloak Room and our Best Man Eddie wore one of his own suits.

HAIR: Very simply swept back into a low, relaxed bun.

MAKEUP: Fairly natural with smoky eyes.

INVITATIONS: Letterpressed invitations by Bespoke Letterpress. The invitations were printed in a fresh green custom font with a blind impression of wheat along the botom border. The invitations were sent in brown craft envelopes with a fun green and peach lining.

WEDDING FAVORS: Small jars of homemade curried apple and date chutney.

BOUQUET TYPES: A natural posy style bouquet featuring pink ranunculi,  white and pink blushing bride, billy buttons and small wild daisies. Each bouquet was bound with hessian and twine.

CEREMONY DÉCOR: A natural outdoor setting with hessian covered hay bales for seating and a handmade fabric backdrop. The pots of flowers, potted by our family flanked the entrance to the aisle while the garden bench and table was used as the signing table.

RECEPTION DÉCOR: Trestle tables topped with wide hessian table runners were adorned with an eclectic mix of flowers in mason jars of varying sizes. Tea light candles, chalk board table numbers and cutlery bound with twine and a swing tag finished the look. Lounge areas were created using “rustic” furniture and bales from the ceremony. In place of a seating chart we had each guest’s name on a swing tag secured on recycled wooden pallettes at the entrance to the marquee. The marquee was lined with silk lining and fairly lights were hung in the ceiling.

WEDDING PLANNER: Victoria from The Little White Wedding Company (who happens to be Katie’s sister).

WEDDING STYLIST: The styling ideas slowly emerged through a lot of workshopping and brainstorming with Victoria.

CAKE TYPE: A homemade cake “buffet”. Nutella cake, ginger and honey cream sponge, blueberry cheese cake, melting moments, carrot cake and orange and poppiseed syrup cake were all featured.

WEDDING SONGS: We weren’t really set on having particular songs for particular parts of the wedding. We did however pick All You Need Is Love by the Beatles as the song Katie walked down the aisle to.

ENTERTAINMENT: Ceremony: A friend of ours played acousitc guitar. Reception: The White Tree (with a guest rapper!)

FOOD & BEVERAGES: Caxton Street Catering provided the food  for the wedding. Entrees were shared to create a more “family feast” atmosphere and mains included four point lamb rack, prosciutto mascarpone mash, peppered spinach, broccolini, jus and sous vide beef tenderloin, mustard mash, proscuitto beans, chive hollandaise, confit truss tomatoes.

TRANSPORT: We arranged a mini bus to bring guests from the nearest parking at the local shopping centre as there was minimal parking available at the site of the wedding itself.

HONEYMOON: 3 nights at Byron View Farm in the Byron Bay hinterland, follwed by 2 nights in Stanthorpe.

GIFT REGISTRY: Thankyou Gift Registry Service

CELEBRANT: Katie’s Great Aunt Beth was our celebrant. It was lovely to be married by someone that we knew.

READINGS: Aunty Beth wanted to surprise us with a couple of readings which was lovely.

SOURCES OF INSPIRATION: The wedding location at Katie’s parents place. Mark’s parents farm. Hessian.

A MEMORABLE MOMENT: Seeing Mark for the first time on our wedding day.

BEST ADVICE FOR PLANNING A WEDDING/TO BRIDES: Hire a wedding planner! I’m a little biased as my sister is a wedding planner but the knowledge and access to suppliers was incredibly useful.

Congratulations to Katie & Mark from The LANE team! And a huge thank you to Feather + Stone Photography and Victoria from The Little White Wedding Company for these beautiful images!
