HOW WE MET: We met through mutual friends in Byron Bay at The Beach Hotel.
OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY: Our engagement happened on a holiday in Bali. I had the most amazing plan for the day, I had planned to take Rhi to Karma Kandara for a beautiful day of pampering and romantic lunch where I would pop the question but as I booked this day 5 days into the holiday my nerves got the better of me and I lasted 1 whole day. I asked her to marry me on the balcony of our hotel room at the Royal Beach Seminyak in the morning after we arrived.
MARRIAGE TO US MEANS: Love, friendship and commitment to each other, building a life and family together.
WEDDING LOCATION: Our ceremony was held at the Victorian Marriage Registry in Melbourne City. We wanted a very simple and affordable ceremony and loved the elegant European architectural style of the heritage listed Old Treasury Building. Our reception was held at Cumulus Inc. in Arc One Gallery. Our overall idea was a simple ceremony followed by fun intimate celebration with our closest friends and family over a beautiful dinner. The function area at Cumulus Inc is in the lovely art gallery next door called Arc One Gallery. We loved the idea of having our reception in an art gallery and the exhibition that was going to be showing at the time was perfect. The exhibition by artist Huang Xu titled ‘Flowers’ was a series of beautiful large black and white photographs of extreme close-ups of flowers. The Registry and Cumulus Inc are both situated near each other in a beautiful part of Melbourne CBD which is referred to as the Paris end of the city. It was also a short stroll down Flinders Lane to our reception.
THEME/STYLE: Contemporary, stylish and elegant.
PHOTOGRAPHY: We chose Beck Rocchi as our wedding photographer as she is a good friend of ours and we love her energy, enthusiasm and style of photography. She brought so much joy to our day, capturing every moment beautifully!

BRIDE’S DRESS: Lover Wiccan lace dress. A sheer Ivory lace dress with an asymmetric hem. I fell in love with this dress the moment I saw it.
BRIDE’S SHOES: Schutz nude patent leather platform stiletto. I originally wanted YSL Tribute sandals, although decided to keep within our budget and go with a similar design inspired by the YSL Tribute from our store.
BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES: My sisters were my bridesmaid and Maid of Honour, and chose their own black cocktail dress. My sister Melody, who was Maid of Honour, wore a Lover black lace cocktail dress.
BRIDESMAID’S SHOES: Black closed toe pumps.
ACCESSORIES: Jewellery was minimal, only small art deco inspired drop earrings to match my engagement ring. A headpiece made of white miniature roses and easter daisies in a very fine and delicate style.
WEDDING RING STYLES: Art deco style platinum and diamond to match engagement ring. Christian had his ring made from white gold with five of his late grandmothers diamonds set into it.
GROOMSMEN: Christian wore a navy slim cut Paul Smith suit with a white collared shirt, Lanvin onyx cufflinks given to him as a wedding gift from Rhiannon, a navy tie and Grenson brogues. A simple rose and easter daisy buttonhole bound in natural ribbon to match bride.
HAIR: Natural loose waves with a small section at the front pinned back with the headpiece. Hair was done by good friend and hairdresser Bree (Bree-Anna Avalon Hair Stylist Guru).
MAKEUP: Pretty, fresh and minimal, by Mecca Cosmetica.
STATIONERY/INVITATIONS: We designed our wedding invitations based on the art work by artist Huang Xu. We had one of his black and white photographs printed on white linen cards.
FAVORS/BONBONNIERE: Christian’s aunty Penny made delicious chocolate truffles for everyone. We attached poems from one of Rhiannon's favourite books by Khalil Gibran, Love Letters in the Sand.
BOUQUETS: Poppy from florist Katie Marx made a gorgeous bouquet to match my headpiece. A small posy of white roses, eater daisy and lissianthus in a gorgeous soft romantic garden style.
VIDEOGRAPHER: Jarreau Farina of Lord Town Productions. Made a beautiful short film of the day. We would highly recommend having a videographer as well as a photographer.
CEREMONY DÉCOR: The wedding ceremony was held at the Victorian Marriage Registry so there was no need to style the room. But our AMAZING and beautiful photographer Beck Rocchi orgainsed 100 white balloons to be waiting for us on the stairs of the registry building!
RECEPTION DÉCOR: Arc One is a contemporary gallery in the same building as Cumulus Inc. Both are old semi-industrial spaces with white walls and timber floors, which was exactly the style we were looking for.We loved the warehouse style and the simplicity and elegance of the gallery, so didn’t need to worry about decorating the space too much. We felt that the exhibition was decoration enough. It was furnished simply with only 2 long tables running down the centre and a small table for our Wishing Well and a Bar. The only decoration that was added were flowers. Arrangements were placed on the dining tables, Wishing Well table and bar. We used the same florist as Cumulus Inc, Katie Marx. Poppy from Katie Marx did an amazing job and her work was more beautiful than we could have imagined. We wanted the arrangements to be simple and white. Poppy chose a selection of beautiful white flowers that were in season. They were set out in a small collection of jars scattered over the centre of the tables with different types of all white flowers (and greenery) in each. Tealight candles were also placed along the tables with the flowers. We had a few Glasshouse scented gardenia candles on the Wishing Well table.
WEDDING PLANNER: We didn’t use a wedding stylist or planner, instead we did everything ourselveswith the help of Zoe and Morgan at Cumulus Inc.
CAKE TYPE: Chocolate and cherry mousse cake made by Cumulus, which was sprayed white and with fresh flowers from table arrangements on top.
Ceremony: These Ams of Mine by Ottis Reading.
After Ceremony: Signed Sealed Delivered by Stevie Wonder.
First Dance: Hey Love by Stevie Wonder.
ENTERTAINMENT: Band. Music was important to us. We wanted a live band to play throughout the evening not just a DJ standing in the corner. The band was a funk, soul and reggae band of very talented musicians fronted by our friend Aaron Mendoza from Electric Empire. The band was amazing! It offered great entertainment and perfect atmosphere. Guests did not stop dancing from the moment they arrived and we had to ask the band to stop playing so people would sit down to eat their beautiful food.
FOOD & BEVERAGES:Food was another important element for us. The food at Cumulus is designed to be shared, which we loved. We really wanted our family and friends to celebrate over beautiful food and wine. Christian comes from a Lebanese background and we wanted the food to have a middle eastern/Mediterranean influence. Champagne on arrival. Entrees to start, followed by a progression of dishes from the restaurant. Classics such as the signature slow-roast lamb shoulder sat alongside dishes featuring seasonal produce from their organic farmers. Our wedding cake was dessert. The team at Cumulus Inc. did the most incredible job!
TRANSPORT TYPE: BMW for the bride and a taxi for the groom.
HONEYMOON: 2 nights at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne and then 2 weeks in a private villa in Bali.
CELEBRANT: Hyam Mansour
READINGS USED: A traditional Celtic blessing
SOURCES OF INSPIRATION: Blogs and each other
A MEMORABLE MOMENT: The Whole Day!
ONE THING I WISH I KNEW BEFORE I STARTED MY WEDDING PLANS: Was not to sweat the small stuff.
BEST ADVICE FOR PLANNING A WEDDING/TO BRIDES: Start planning and marking things off your to do list early, so that you are relaxed and prepared leading up to the day. Hire a videographer as well as a photographer. Enjoy the experience as it goes by so quickly!
