Enchanted by the idea of an intimate and darkly romantic wedding ceremony, held at dusk and moodily lit with cascading garlands of bare bulbs and clusters of candles…we went in search of the perfect setting.
Harvest (one of our favourite venues) set in the lush countryside of Byron Bay New South Wales, with wide, quintessentially Australian verandahs and oozing a relaxed, nostalgic charm all of its own…its long been the perfect choice for a rustic afternoon wedding.
We were inspired for this shoot though by the ancient bakery space, at the rear of the venue. With it's inimitable patinas of exposed bricks, polished concrete floors, and cast iron accents, wooden beams supporting a magnificent candelabra complete this dramatically beautiful yet intimate setting. The enormous wood fired oven (a bakery in name and nature!) warms this space throughout Winter, yet it transforms effortlessly in warmer months with doors and windows that fold completely open, drawing the outside garden, in.
Captivated by the idea of exchanging vows in a rustic styled setting like this, against a spectacular backdrop of candles and bare bricks, surrounded by friends and family within arms reach, we envisage an intimate dinner for forty people to follow, down long wooden tables. Requiring only minimal styling, find elegance in a carefully curated mix of textures, merging gold accents with earthier details like charcoal linen and a runner of simple glass bottles filled with tapered candles. Dark bentwood chairs and a timber table complete the scene of rustic twilight elegance.
