Minimal Makeup

Strong subscribers to the school of thought that less is definitely more where make up is concerned, our beauty ideal remains firmly, unwaveringly one of dewy, luminous, super natural looking skin. A face of minimal make up, in which features like lashes and cheekbones are gently enhanced, but somehow magically, invisibly so. The holy grail of beauty - that ability to look flawless, yet completely free of make up all together - it is something we search for, aspire towards and subscribe to, day and night, but feel especially strongly about for wedding day beauty.

The Parisians do this look particularly well, and some of our favourite fashion designers from the chic city send girls down the runway, season after season, all effortlessly natural hair and glowy, radiant skin, seemingly free from foundation altogether…

Inspired, yet totally unsure of how to replicated it, we called on the expertise of LANE handpicked hair and make up artist, Liv Lundelius (a master of all things naturally beautiful) to de-mystify this most flawless of make-up styles.

What should brides consider, if they want to keep things natural on their wedding day?
Good skin care and skin prep are key, it's best to start a good regime months before your wedding day. Regular exfoliation, a gentle good quality cleanser and a nourishing and balancing moisturiser are must. Less is more, only use foundation and concealer where needed, be selective and keep it fresh and natural.

Which specific products should brides consider using to achieve this look?
- A lovely rich moisturizer, like the french classic "Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré" - 24 Hour Miracle Creme.
- Liquid highlighter, like Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector or Armani "Fluid Sheer".
- An invisible cover foundation like Makeup Forever Hd Invisible Cover Foundation.
- A good radiant concealer like Ellis Faas.
- A hydrating setting spray to lock in moisture and maintain a healthy dewy finsh, for example Jane Iredale D2O Hydration Spray

What kind of tools and techniques for application will deliver the best results?
- Massage your face with your hands to enhance circulation and radiance, and to stimulate lymph flow prior to makeup application.
- Apply a liquid highlighter onto your cheek bones before foundation.
- Use a soft buffing brush to work a small amount of foundation into the skin.
- Blend with a lightly dampened makeup sponge to make concealers and foundation invisible.
