In Store at Spina Bride
In Store at Spina Bride

Picture the most chic dressing room imaginable, where drinks flow and your closest friends are invited as you try on an exclusive edit of international (won’t find anywhere else in NYC) gowns and accessories, each chosen for their unique beauty. Housed in a stunningly restored West Village townhouse, SPINA Bride offers a unique and intimate sensory experience for those on the search for their perfect gown. The brainchild of friends Paul Tsang and Giselle Dubois, the space (and the immaculate edit of pieces housed within) is the culmination of their collective backgrounds in luxe events, floristry and fashion. The result? A sophisticated and highly personalised concept store. A New York bridal boutique, but not as you know it.

Having curated an exclusive edit of luxurious gowns and accessories, the focussed selection covers a diverse spectrum of silhouettes, aesthetic persuasions and price points. $2500 gowns hanging cohesively alongside $12,000 options. Here, brides can choose their own adventure….from an effortless bias cut silk slip paired with a magnificently embellished cathedral veil, an extravagantly beaded, structured gown or a dreamy tulle skirt paired with a lace illusion, daring bodysuit.

Bringing together anything but a ‘typically American’ edit, SPINA Bride carries gowns sourced from some of the most undiscovered, (and in our opinion underrated) names in bridal, each chosen for their beauty and point of difference. There’s Israeli based Lee Petra Grebenau, responsible for the most extraordinary hand embellishment and veils to match. Or New Zealand’s A La Robe, a designer who ‘washes’ each of her luxurious silks for an inimitable feeling against the skin, all cut to fluid, bias perfection. Each experience is unique, a highly personalised journey of dress and accessory matching, before a bride arrives at her final decision.

Stepping inside, through the gold brushed entrance framing an elegantly sparse interior, you feel a little like you’ve popped by to visit an old friend, albeit a friend with immaculate taste and who welcomes you with an irresistible selection of beverages! Greeted by the eternally chic Giselle, an owner who genuinely loves her job (she describes her brides as the absolute highlight of her SPINA adventure so far), you’re immediately at ease. A space in which to feel inspired, intrigued, and completely relaxed.

Inside, this light filled haven of sophistication and tranquility feels like the ultimate private dressing room, catering to both traditional, and non-traditional tastes. Branches of blossom, a candle filled fireplace, an African JuJu…such eclecticism yet restraint perfectly mirrors the multifaceted women who will appreciate this unique boutique. Unexpected accessories housed in glass cases, or displayed as curiosities, invite closer inspection and trying on. The heirloom gold myrtle crowns by Naturae Design and the magical creations of Luna Bea, (each piece beautifully concealing a tiny 14K gold bee, an ancient talisman to be removed and worn as a keepsake of your wedding day on a chain or bracelet). Such attention to detail, such unexpected intrigue, it’s all perfectly befitting of the SPINA Bride experience.

And with longer than normal appointments, SPINA Bride holds this ‘experience’ and service above all else. No detail is too small, or request too big. Getting to know each of her clients intimately, Giselle is passionate about getting inside the mind of her brides to understand their every need. Seeking outs criteria around budget and body shape, aesthetics and silhouettes, she loves nothing more than finding a bespoke, personalised solution for each woman. From the chic, white washed surrounds to the chilled soundtrack and luxuriously relaxed vibe, it’s easy standing in front of a giant mirror, in an impossibly beautiful dress, to lose track of time. In this intimate, one on one experience, clients can relax across an entire floor of a townhouse (all to themselves) with their three special guests and a room spilling with exquisite dresses waiting to be tried on…an opportunity we couldn’t resist with our own engaged beauty Emma, only too happy to accommodate!

For brides in search of the extraordinary, both in service and a selection of speciality pieces, book an appointment at Spina Bride, via their website here. Afterwards, grab a coffee from next door and head to the blossom filled Washington Square Park with your bridesmaids, for a post-appointment picnic.
