Imagine the juxtaposition of a cosmic inspired bridal collection unfolding beneath canopy of crystal chandeliers and ornately engraved ceilings, a collection appropriately titled 'Stardust', all glittering sequins and nets of silvery tulle, ornate and incredible laces rich in celestial embellishment styled with bespoke, otherworldly headdresses, set against the stage of an heirloom ballroom in a muted palette. A certain hush falling as the show began with those present understanding that something magical was about to emerge…
Mira Zwillinger presented for Spring 2016 what can only be described as a breathtakingly beautiful collection, at once ethereally light, suffused with a sort of majestic magnificence yet underpinned by the unexpected, the sometimes playful, a glittering, celestial celebration of divine femininity. Forming a cohesive base for an exploration of diverse silhouettes and signature details, cuts of plunging V necklines at both the front and back were paired often with gracefully pooling hems that trailed with nonchalant elegance behind models. Exquisite fabrics of utterly imaginative embellishment proved even more incredible on closer inspection. The realisation that a particularly luminous and shimmering tulle is in fact a finely spun net of silver silk, while beaded formations took the form of swirling, celestial clusters or constellation like sequins. Re-embroidered laces quietly glinted, floral appliques moved as life-like blooms and silver encrusted embellishment glittered and twinkled, worked into floral lace.
Playfully short silhouettes with nipped waists and lightly structured skirts gently flounced and swung softly as models turned, in beautiful contrast to the ethereally dreamy, pleated chiffon skirts that skimmed floors, seeming to drift and glide down runways on an invisible breeze of their own (to reveal sensual, thigh-high slits). Scatterings of tiny metallic paillettes dressed shoulders and collarbones, scattered across illusion necklines and separates cut to compliment a strapless gown silhouette (for an utterly contemporary update on a bridal favourite).
Each magnificently adorned in a customised, 'stardust' headdress, models moved with a kind of quiet confidence, embodying otherworldlyness, all shimmering silver cheekbones, gliding gracefully to a superbly fun soundtrack. A feeling of no one needing to try too hard, there being nothing to prove…the dresses were jaw droppingly beautiful and the girls clearly felt amazing embodying an ethereal effortlessness, a kind of cosmic radiance, pausing at runways end, unhurriedly, gracefully turning and twirling in diaphanous, stardust scattered skirts.
We imagine these gowns drifting mesmerisingly across sand or snow, being gently twirled into the early hours of the morning, worn by those with an affinity for unique, celestial inspired elegance, a kind of magical femininity that transcends aesthetics of either contemporary vs. classicism, speaking instead to an energy, a mood, a particular kind of woman.
