Raising the bar every year with his couture take on Bridal, Naeem Khan is a collection, or more accurately an artistic exhibition, epitomising everything we love about the concept of bridal when viewed through a lens of creative expression; a reflection of a woman’s innate personality and aesthetic.
Embodying a true sense of bohemia, Naeem Khan’s fall 2017 collection is a luxurious infusion of global inspirations (void of hippie cliches and poor construction disguised as free-spirited). The collection beautifully captures the soul of his global audience, weaving together exquisite fabrics, intricate embroidery and decadent beading using artisanal techniques usually reserved for couture collections. And while the collection is heavily ornamented, the simplicity of his silhouettes provide balance, ensuring the designs evoke the effortless mood imbued in bohemia.
Speaking with Naeem Backstage after the show, he expressed his disinterest in creating a cohesive collection, and a passion in telling the stories of the diversely different women who wear his designs around the world. From bold injections of color inspired by the vibrancy of South American and Middle Eastern cultures, to wintry faux fur accents and sequinned gowns in shimmering metallics, Fall 17 was richly contrasting yet beautifully complimentary.
Always inspired by a particular muse each season, for Fall the thread of commonality between the collectionlies in Naeem’s otherworldly fascination with Princess Leah. His abstract interpretation was expressed through both hair and makeup (think bold centre parting and loosely dishevelled curls) and interestingly the deconstruction of veils, positioned at the sides of a bride’s hair and pinned with sculptural fabric flowers.
Our favourites…a heirloom inspired silhouette with billowing sleeves pulled into elegant cuffed sleeves, collared neckine and sheer fabric covered in textured botanical embroidery, beautifully merging classicism and tradition with a youthful, gypset aesthetic.
