In three words… Artful. Intricate. Unexpected.
Mood & Muse… A celebration of the artisans of the world
Highlights…An entirely embroidered ‘gypsy’ gown, complete with a cut away back and elegant sleeves drawn into soft volume and frills at the wrist. A romantic, heirloom inspired gown with hints of the nomadic. Our dress of the week. (pictured first)
A hand embroidered, sleeveless jewel-neck gown, overlaid with a diaphanous cape edged in large appliquéd flowers (pictured second). Feminine, ethereal and a hint of bohemia.
A slinky honeycomb embroidered ivory gown, pooling into a petite train. The high collar and long sleeves beautifully balanced by a keyhole back opening (pictured third), perfect for a chic city wedding.
A magical, iridescent gown of pink and metallic heirloom embroidery, spilling down a nude base. Botanical motifs lending a romantic femininity to the sensuality of the daring neckline. (pictured fourth)
And for the after party…
A metallic, fringed cocktail dress practically made for dancing in! (pictured fifth)
A honeycomb embroidered jumpsuit with a plunging centre front neckline and completely cut away back. Chic and sexy, whilst totally unexpected. (pictured sixth)
The collection…Marking the final event on the calendar, anticipation levels are always high heading to the Naeem Khan show, not only as it concludes another crazy bridal week, but because the collection always feels a little like a celebration…the pre-show air filled with an unmistakable buzz as (slightly jaded) press wait to see what new creations will be revealed by this luminary. For Spring 2017 the celebration continued, this time as a vidid honouring of artisanal techniques drawn from all over the world.
Crafting gowns that feel more akin to true Couture, the level of craftsmanship and exquisite detail, painstakingly applied to each of these pieces almost has to be seen, to be believed. With style names hinting at the diverse inspirational reach of the collection (think Amalfi, Dominica, Cannes, St. Lucia and Havana), this was a luxuriously nomadic adventure across continents. A unique and eclectic vision realised with the cohesion of a true artist.
While drawing upon signature details (beaded fringing, feathers, floral appliqué and intricate embroidery) this season, Naeem Khan extended upon celebrated elements, stretching imaginations and originality, looking ‘outside of the box’. As well as the incredible embellishment we've come to expect from this designer (embellishment realised across a diverse spectrum of silhouettes), interspersed for Spring were jumpsuits, kaftans, cocktail dresses, pale blue plumage and a black petalled ballgown for finale.
Imagined in a palette of ivory, blush and nude bases, cameos of lavender and soft metallics retained a beautiful lightness, underpinning such extravagant embellishment. The botanical theme of the week continued, however here it was realised in golden threads or intricate, oversized embroideries.
For those in search of a breathtaking gown that breaks with tradition (but doesn’t resemble a version of done-to-death bohemian) the Naeem Khan Spring collection will prove a rich gathering ground, whichever style you plan to celebrate in.
