Reem Acra…the high priestess of seductive wedding gowns, (or as she explained in a backstage interview with us last season, gowns for women who want to look like “sexy bombshells”) this season surprised us with a dreamily botanical collection, This Magic Moment.
Suffused with a lightness and airiness, many of her signature, body conscious gowns and seductive cuts had been replaced with a softer, more whimsical version of femininity. Rather than plunging illusion necklines and the slender, backless silhouettes she’s so known for, Fall sensuality was explored through ethereal fabrics and only hints of the body beneath. Sheer corsetry and delicate panels of lace cut to reveal glimpses of skin, or the silhouette of legs just visible through airily light skirts. Seductive still, but dreamily so…whispered, rather than announced.
Signature embellishment was just as complex and decadent, explored this season through richly textured botanical motifs and beautiful beading. Three dimensional flowers, sparkling crystals and large floral laces were layered across the collection in a palette of soft blush, ivory and hints of nude. Polka dot tulle and embroidered petals, floral motifs suspended on featherweight organza, miniature pearls and sequins that clustered around bodices before scattering freely down skirts…each came together to build a collection that felt feminine yes, but collectively romantic rather that ‘sweet’.
Bustiers were key still, and the focal point for most gowns, however there was a diversity of silhouette that stemmed from their immaculate fits. Ballgowns, mermaid sheaths, soft tulle skirts, embellished sleeves and trailing trains…a silhouette for every woman. Our favourite? A spectacularly embellished, ethereally light blush tinted gown encrusted with jewelled botanical motifs trailing down layers of a sheer, feather weight skirt.
Perfect for a dreamily botanical winter wedding, we’re imagining these gowns walking between branches of magnolias in a sunlit reception space, paired with ivory slip dresses for bridesmaids and free flowing champagne.
