“Keep in mind that the reason you know you can be good to others is only because you’ve taken strides to be better for and to yourself.”– Alexandra Elle
In our eyes, Alexandra Elle (aka Alex Elle) is one of the most resounding voices of the self-care movement. Writing affirmations from the perspective of a mother and wife, she offers a unique view on the empowering practice of caring for yourself first. A scroll through her Instagram page feels overwhelmingly personal, as though her words were composed just for you, and she writes with an eloquence and authenticity that inspires us to evaluate the way we honor and love ourselves.
Believing self-love is central to relationships with others, we asked Alex to compose a collection of vows to herself; promises that will serve her, and her family, to keep. What she created was a series of beautiful reminders, and she shared with us why she feels so strongly that self-care can only strengthens relationships.
“For me, I feel like you can't have one without the other. We can't truly offer love to another if we are troubled with loving ourselves. A lot of the time we think we can but quickly find out that loving while depleted isn't the way to go. Healthy relationships start with a foundation on self-awareness in my opinion, and self-love/self-care is fundamental.”
Alex has written two books and her third is available for pre-order. For more information, visit her website.
