Always dreaming of weekends away and an intrusion of nature that, often, feels removed from the city, we love the idea of engagement parties hosted close, but not quite within, urban centres. Endlessly convenient with all your favourite local providers still on hand and accessible (on the day) to use, here are some of our favourite local destinations for satellite-inspired celebrations:
Australia and New Zealand...
Satellite Island - Positioned within the D'Entrecasteaux channel, Satellite Island is one of Tasmania's most poorly kept secrets. Regularly frequented by those in the know, the whole island is available to book for a private getaway - being also accessible only by boat.
Fort Denison - With its sandstone Martello tower, Fort Denison is a tiny but beautiful island poised in the middle of Sydney Harbour. Accessible by ferry from Circular Quay, this fortified relic is an elegant venue space for hire within, but also removed, from the madness of the metropolis.
Waiheke Island - A 35 minute ferry ride from Auckland central, Waiheke Island is an oasis of vineyards and olive groves. With beautiful coastlines and a grassy hinterland we love the almost Tuscan feel of Mudbrick Vineyard and Restaurant for a celebration or engagement party.
Campbell Point House: A gracious estate on the Bellarine Pennisular, Campbell Point House is all grandeur and scale. With perfectly groomed gardens and elegant rooms, Campbell Point House is perfect as either an engagement party or wedding venue.
Clark Island - One of the original 'picnic' islands of Sydney Harbour, Clark Island is a small but charming getaway. With its stone paved jetty, manicured lawn and other less-tamed, rugged parkland, Clark Island is accessible by private water taxi and must be booked through National Parks NSW with a maximum of 150 people.

Cockatoo Island: Located at the junction of Parramatta and land Cover Rivers in Syndey Harbour, Cockatoo Island is an old shipping warf and prison. Offering the blank canvas of industrial warehouses with extraordinary city views, Cockatoo Island has become a popular waterfront venue.
Rottness Island: Rottness Island could be summed up in a word: Pristine. With its aquamarine waters and white chalky sand, not only is it the epitome of picturesque but a place to celebrate, relax and unwind. Accessible by plane, by boat or ferry - see detail on getting there here.
Santa Catalina Island: Lying Southwest of Los Angeles, Santa Catalina is one of California's Channel Islands. Think, beautiful beaches and a harbour front resort town, we love the idea of sailing to Catalina from Los Angeles to spend the day in celebration on land or boating.
Shelter Island: First it was the Hamptons, then it was Montauk, now it's Shelter Island. The current NYC go-to to truly relax and unwind, Shelter Island is located at the eastern end of Long Island offering breath-taking views, beautiful beaches and a place for laid-back waterfront festivities.
