While we love a large venue, perfect for long guest lists, grand scale receptions can feel daunting to style, at best. Wanting to know where to start (and how to create a sense of intimacy in the vastness), we asked the professionals at event style company, Georgeous Occasions, for their expert advice and approach...
Embrace the space
Call in a friend or the professionals to visit the space with you. Does the size need addressing or is the vastness what gives it the charm? Ask for sample floor plans to allow you to visualise and identify any areas that need consideration. These areas may just be the perfect lounging pocket or grazing station.
Division of the space into smaller intimate
Our absolute favourite! Dividing the space can be achieved with relative ease by running wires and drapes. Think of the flow of the wedding and consider dividing spaces to play host and potentially reveal. Take into account the ceremony, cocktail hour, the dining, and the dancing. Oh and not to forget the surprise late night Champagne bar (or chocolate station) reveal!
Bring the roof down
Literally…and on the dance floor later! A large space lends itself nicely to an installation of sorts. Generally speaking such installations do take time (take our word on that) and more often than not, a budget. Enlist the professionals where you can on this one and make sure your hire period allows the time needed. Think outside the box and consider vertical installations that run to the floor.
It is all too easy to overlook and not take into consideration what the space will look like when the sun goes down, and the dancing shoes come out! Visit your space with lighting professional to discuss what can be achieved. Consider unexpected elements like projection or suspended feature lighting.
