Channelling understated elegance and timeless style, Mari & Jota exchanged vows in a lavish garden ceremony nestled in the grounds of a Barcelona vineyard. The couple were wed before a backdrop of cascading foliage and feathered blooms, Mari in a backless silk gown that spilled to the floor.
Finding beauty in simplicity and romance in history, styling was kept stunningly simple. Organic aesthetics played off the venues raw textures, with neutral colours and wooden finishes set against tendrils of foliage and soft white blossoms.
The reception was held below ground, in the labyrinth of cellars lying beneath the vineyard. Tables snaked between soaring pillars and ancient arches, wild greenery suspended overhead, bringing effortless opulence to the cellar’s darkly lit palette.

NAMES: Maria José Capón & Jota Guillén
WEDDING DATE: 17th September 2016
GUEST NUMBERS: 110
HOW WE MET: We met at a beach party in Costa Rica.
OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY: Jota proposed at Tolosa, we went
out on a Sunday and he give me the ring next to the river. It was a
very exciting surprise because I didn’t expect it!
MARRIAGE TO US MEANS: Forever
WEDDING LOCATION: We always knew we wanted to get married
at Codorniu Vineyard, a legendary winery that opened in
1914 and it was love at first sight! We went there with Teresa
(from Detallerie) and she helped us imagine how our wedding
would be. First, we created a special garden space - the ceremony
took place before a beautiful house and a perfectly designed
landscape. Later we had aperitifs outside the wine cellar and then
ventured inside the iconic Codorniu Cellar for our ceremony, styled
with a 30-metre hanging greenery installation!
THEME/STYLE: We had some ideas of what we wanted our wedding to look like and Detallerie made it come to life. They came through with all the design and decor planning and we loved it! We started working on something elegant but cozy at the same time. We wanted to go original so we preferred greenery over flowers, even my bouquet was only greenery! Jota and I love the romantic but classic look, that’s why our stationery was with botanical flowers and lots of green with neutral tones and some light touches of color.

PHOTOGRAPHY: As we are from Costa Rica (living in San Sebastian) we didn't know which suppliers to choose, that’s why we asked Detallerie to help us with our wedding (and are forever grateful with all they did for us). From they options they provided us, we selected Mujerymarido. We are very happy with the result, the pictures reflect exactly how the day was in a very natural way. Just as we wanted them to be.
BRIDE’S DRESS: Following the style of our wedding I wanted something elegant, special and original for my wedding gown, so I started searching for the perfect dress and I finally found it at Rosa Clará, a minimal dress with a spectacular and delicate scooped back.
DRESSES: They flew from Costa Rica to be there with
me, so they chose whatever dress they wanted!
JEWELRY / ACCESSORIES: I wore little diamond hoops and a diamond choker, a gift from my mother.
STATIONERY/INVITATIONS: It was inspired in botanical illustrations; really delicate, neutral and elegant.
FAVORS/BONBONNIERE: Most of our guests flew from Costa Rica to Barcelona, so we gave everyone a mini bottle of Cava from Codorniu.
FLOWERS & BOUQUETS: We wanted something elegant, yet original. We decided on green foliage for the decor and florals.
PREPARATION: I got ready with with my mum and bridesmaids. We had a great time having breakfast together and getting our hair & makeup done.
CEREMONY DÉCOR/ RECEPTION DÉCOR: The place where the ceremony took place was beautiful without décor, so our wedding planners decided to respect the nature of the surroundings. We chose simple and elegant decor with wooden chairs, green foliage and white flowers.
WEDDING PLANNER/ WEDDING STYLIST: Detallerie were our wedding planners, we are forever thankful for them. They worked to make our dreams come true and totally exceeded our expectations.
WEDDING SONGS: Our first dance was "Body and Soul" by Tony Bennett and Amy Winehouse.
ENTERTAINMENT: A friend of ours has a jazz band so they came and played during the cocktail hour.
FOOD & BEVERAGES: We did it the Spanish way, with a cocktail hour and a sit down dinner. Food and beverages are very important to us as Jota is a chef, so we asked Detallerie to recommend a good caterer to work with. We ended up choosing Sibaris catering gastronomy. We loved them!
TRANSPORT: We rented a black Mercedes.
CELEBRANT: The celebrant was a friend of ours, and we are so happy we chose him, he knows us so well and made the whole ceremony so heartfelt.

A MEMORABLE MOMENT: There was a lot of memorable moments but the most emotive one was my mother walking down the aisle with me.
