Instantly being transported to Tuscany...

Ria & Andrew's story unfolded effortlessly, from an exchanging of vows in an ancient Tuscan villa spilling with garlands of rustic foliage and blackberries, to indulgent sunlit tones of the reception, luxuriously chic and undoubtedly soul-full...

NAMES: Ria van Dyke / Andrew Solley

WEDDING DATE: 14thFebruary 2014

HOW WE MET: Andrew and I met at our family church through one of my closest friends.

OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY: Andrew proposed with a romantic candlelit setting in the natural backdrop of Waiheke Island, and we could see no place more beautiful and fitting to bring our family and friends to celebrate with us in an intimate ceremony on Waiheke a year later.

MARRIAGE TO US MEANS: Loving and trusting each other wholeheartedly for the rest of our lives.

THEME/STYLE: For our Wedding, we envisioned old world Tuscan elegance surrounded by the lush, natural beauty of the rolling hills and olive groves.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Our photographer, Danelle Bohane, has a wonderful love affair with light and nature. It is the way that she sees the world around her that sets her apart. We are so thankful to her for her creative vision and artistic insight in capturing the heart and soul of our day.

BRIDE’S DRESS:When I first laid eyes on my Wedding dress by J'Aton Couture, it was love at first sight. The dress was carefully hand sewn, beautifully embellished with crystals, intricate embroidery and layers of lace and tulle.

BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES: The bridesmaid's elegantly designed floor-length dresses featured a subtle sweetheart neckline and fitted bodice.

JEWELLERY/ACCESSORIES: My bridesmaids wore beautiful crystal embellished headpieces by Bo & Luca.

GROOMSMEN ATTIRE:In line with our old-world elegance wedding, Andrew and our groomsmen wore timeless tuxedos, with a slim European-cut silhouette.

MAKEUP: With an evening wedding in mind, my bridesmaids and I opted for bold, smokey-eyes, highlighted cheekbones and neutral lip palette.

STATIONERY/INVITATIONS:We envisioned a simple, yet elegant stationary suite with olive branch details and hand lettering by Juliet Grace, and letter pressed on deckled cards from Florence, Italy.

FLOWERS & BOUQUETS: To complement the lush rolling hills and olive groves, our wedding flowers were wild loosely arranged leafy foliage with olive leaves, black berries and tiny white wax flowers.

VIDEOGRAPHY: Our videographers, Bubblerock, beautifully captured the very essence of each moment of our special day with their cinematic style and affinity to the sun's romantic, golden light.

PREPARATION: The evening before the wedding, our close family and friends joined us at our villa for an Italian feast. As the sun began to set, Andrew and I felt at peace watching our family and friends laughing, eating and soaking it all in.

CEREMONY DÉCOR: On the day of our wedding, our guests walked past the old world fountain decorated with wreaths of olive garland and entered into the round arching doors of the villa. Brass urns with loosely arranged wild flowers lined the aisle, and candles flickered across the fireplace.

RECEPTION DECOR:To us, we love family, friends, great food, wine, and music. We envisioned our reception as an intimate dinner party, where stories and laughter could be enjoyed and shared across the table. We had a candlelit reception dinner, with olive garland ornately placed down the long dining tables and accented by old world brass, with locally made breads, marinated olives, crushed rosemary and local olive oil to start.

WEDDING PLANNER/ WEDDING STYLIST: I worked alongside Rhonda, my wedding planner, to create my dream wedding. From her endless support, to her elegant style of decorating and careful consideration to detail, she made me feel so at ease.

CAKE: Our wedding cake was a simple, rustic style, with a garland of olive leaves wrapped around each tier. The cake was a decadent white chocolate with buttercream icing.

ENTERTAINMENT: A classical guitarist played Italian love songs gently throughout the evening.

OFFICIANT: Joining us at our wedding was our childhood pastor who had flown in to the country to join us all and officiate our marriage, which was so special for us.

A MEMORABLE MOMENT: Our wedding day and the days that led up to it were so filled with the love and support of our family and friends, who made our wedding more than we could have ever imagined. The day was a soulful love affair – warm, intimate and full of heart.

IF I COULD GIVE OTHER BRIDES TO BE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE…This is your special day, embrace every moment in your celebration of love, beauty and family.
