Behind The Brand
Describe the woman you design for…
She’s a sophisticated Australian woman – she loves to travel, and lives a bohemian, coastal lifestyle; she is laid-back and she appreciates style along with beautiful quality.
What is your most popular piece?
Brides have gone crazy for our new “Lumina” gown – she’s a beautiful mix of modern and vintage and comes with various slip options which is great for brides who want to make their look unique. Our “Rebecca” gown is definitely a bride favorite too.
What advice would you give to brides-to-be?
Make your wedding a romantic extension of your everyday life; being organised helps to keep the planning relaxed and stress-free; ask for recommendations – word of mouth is the best for finding wedding experts who can help you create your dream wedding.
As a designer, what tips do you have for brides to get the most out of their fittings?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions or to speak up about the way something is sitting or falling – often when creating a custom gown, beautiful gown details have come out of a bride saying “can we do this…..?”
Do you offer a custom design service for brides? If so, how long does it take to make a custom piece?
Yes – we offer a bespoke service for brides where I sit down with them and discuss their ideas on styles and fabrications, before sketching options for them to choose from. Once a design is chosen, we make a toile (sample) to perfect the fit. After this the actual gown is started and we need 2-3 fittings to complete the gown. At least 6 months is needed for this service to include all fittings and to import any fabrics from overseas, which are often made to order.
What advice do you give to brides to care for their gown?
Have your gown dry cleaned or cleaned as soon as possible after your wedding day and keep it hanging in the bag that you received it in where possible.
Why we love it…
Amy New takes pride on the environmental impact their Made & Designed in Australia label has. Each piece is designed to last, taking their time to ensure each detail is perfect and the fabrics are chosen well to ensure no wastage. Their slow fashion approach is where the industry is heading. We love the relaxed, luxe style of these beautiful gowns that suit our laid back Australian lifestyle.
For the bride…
For the modern bride looking for a timeless gown that is simple, yet feminine and romantic. She values Australian made garments and slow fashion – and appreciates every intricate detail that goes into making a forever piece. For the bride looking to feel comfortable in her dress throughout her wedding day, this is the label for you.
We picture these boho-luxe pieces windswept along the Australian Coast or paired against a lush forest backdrop in the hinterland. Loose waves or curls and natural, dewey makeup would compliment these beautiful gowns well.
