Behind The Brand

Your best beauty/ makeup advice for big events?

Be prepared, set aside some extra time before your event. 1. Skin preparation is key, I have a skincare back ground, so I am all about the perfect base. The night before your big event you should exfoliate your face, this removes any dead skin cells and helps with any dry patches. Following this, use a hydrating mask – one with Hyaluronic Acid which will dramatically plump the skin. Your skin will be smooth and plump for a flawless foundation application. 2. Match your makeup to the vibe of your outfit rather than the event and colours. If you’re wearing something classic and chic, a small winged liner with rose cheeks will go perfectly, if your outfit is bright and confident pair it back with a red lip, or if you’re look is more avant-garde and edgy maybe a smokey eye with a contoured cheek and minimal lips. Make sure you have the correct products to achieve the desired result and some extra time to spend in the mirror perfecting the look.

What was the spark for Brittany Mason Makeup? Where did the story begin?

I have always loved makeup and beauty. I started working for Mecca Cosmetica in 2007 and grew with the company for 7 years, starting out in Perth at the Claremont store and then over to Melbourne.  I worked in many different stores and many different positions including management and being a skincare specialist. Eventually I ended up in the Mecca HQ in customer service. When I returned to Perth, I started my freelance business, I am fiercely independent and wanted to work for myself building new opportunities to travel and meet new people. My years of experience at Mecca have helped my build my own brand and I really pride myself on the best service possible for all my clients and brides. Having worked with the best beauty brands in the world for so long they all form part of my kit which includes; NARS, Chantecaille, By Terry, Hourglass, Stila Cosmetics plus many other amazing brands from Mecca.

What inspires you creatively?

Most of all, I am inspired by natural beauty. My distinctive look I am known for is real. I love working with skin and making it look natural. Creatively, I am inspired by fashion, color and art. A lot of my makeup inspiration comes from the trending catwalk looks in NYC, London & Paris. I also seek inspiration from other makeup artists at the top of the game which I follow. I love creating mood boards of similar looks and aesthetics and then bringing it to life on a face I am working with.

Most memorable place you’ve travelled?

This is such a tough question as travel is my ultimate passion. As a country I would have to say Italy. I have travelled around Italy with so many friends and family and I have also worked there for the past two summers – hence so many memories! Italy constantly inspires me and the feeling of being there is like no other. The people are so kind and generous, every city, town and village are so different in history, culture and food and colour. I fall in love every day I spend in Italy and I am so excited to go back this year for work!

On a typical weekend we’ll find you?

Working at a wedding! But when I’m not working, I am spending time with my nearest and dearest drinking wine and eating delicious food. Besides beauty and travel my other passion is cooking, I often cook for friends and family on the weekends and try to relax after a busy day at working a wedding.
