Behind The Brand
What draws you to wedding photography?
The people! I love connecting with couples I’ve never met before and being a part of their special day. I often find myself pinching myself, because it’s one of the most incredible things I get to do. I often leave weddings with huge hugs from couples, bridesmaids, and groomsmen, and I don’t want to leave! Weddings are nerve-wracking, thrilling, and some of the most epic moments of your life—and I’m completely obsessed with being there for every second of it.
How would you describe your photography style?
Modern Nostalgia. My style is uniquely defined by these two words combined. It’s filled with color and pure, unadulterated joy. I believe in letting moments on a wedding day unfold naturally, not sticking to a pre-planned shot list but instead following the emotions and love that arise. I love the spontaneity of a wedding day and what can unfold before us. Want to jump in the pool at the end of the night? Let’s do it!
What inspires you creatively?
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been captivated by Modern Art, and that has always been a huge source of inspiration for me. I also love Fashion Photography and can get lost flicking through the pages of glossy magazines or books, studying every detail of color, texture, and composition. And travel! Exploring new places around the world is ingrained in who I am. I always make a point to explore the less popular areas because that’s where the true magic lies. Traveling consistently sparks creativity for me, and my brain just goes wild with ideas.
What is it that makes an image magical?
Photography is art, so a magical image is subjective to each viewer, but for me, it’s all about the vibe. The light, location, style, colors, smiles, textures, patterns, fashion, and those small “in between” moments all feed into what makes an image magical. It’s about the connection you feel to all of these elements combined, even if it doesn’t always make sense. I’ve often been told that when people look at my work, they feel like they’ve been at the wedding themselves – and that’s exactly how I want to make people feel.
What advice would you give couples when selecting their wedding photographer?
Find someone whose work speaks to you and someone you feel a connection with. Photography is one of the few things you have left as a memory after your wedding day, and that’s something couples sometimes forget. When you look back over your photos, you want to feel that “hell yes” moment.
Investing in the right person is key, so be sure to ask to see full galleries, read reviews, and have a call to discuss your plans and vision for the day. You’ll know when you’ve found the right person.
Your dream location to shoot a wedding?
It would be a dream come true to shoot anywhere in the world, and a privilege to do so! But I have to admit, I’m a big city gal with a love for the ocean. That said, shooting an intimate wedding in New York with dinner and dancing at a place like Balthazar, or a grand celebration in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, would excite me to my core. Or, a ceremony by Lake Tekapo in New Zealand when the lupins are in bloom in the spring, or on the crystal-clear beaches of Sumba, Indonesia, where it still feels like a deserted island. I told you, I love travel and have a huge imagination for where weddings can happen.
