About Cortal Gran

Cortal Gran is a fortified medieval castle from the 15th century, located in La Costa Brava (Sant Pere Pescador), 1,5km close to the sea. It was built by the Caramany family, and later restored and refurbished in 1999 by its current owner.

Cortal Gran is completely isolated and surrounded by 125 hectares of apple tree fields for your exclusively private celebrations.

Cortal Gran is located 25 minutes away from Girona and France, 20 minutes away from Figueres, and 90 minutes away from Barcelona. Girona Airport is just 20km away.

Behind The Brand

What was the initial spark for the property and how did it all begin?

Cortal Gran is a family home, which has been passed on generation after generation, since the 19th century. My father went there when he was a child to work in the fields and he inherited it in 1984 completely in ruins and deteriorated. He set out to create a home for his family from this fortification.

We have a very good memory of all its evolution and the spirit of Cortal Gran we have all been creating it together. I remember when they were mounting the floor, the doors… It seems that it was yesterday when we chose the colours of the walls! This whole process until the year 2000, when we definitely came into life. Since then our family has not stopped growing: Pere, Amanda, Nico, Roxy, Lua, Rita and Little Pepa.

Cortal Gran has meant the illusion of our life, we have been shaping it for a long time, for 13 years, we want to share it. We believe in well-done things, the joys of everyday life, and love as a way of life. Cortal Gran symbolizes the love of life, our origin and the union and complicity between all of us. A synergy that will not leave you indifferent!

What spaces do you offer for a wedding or event?

Here there are a wide variety of spaces to commemorate each and every moment of your event, such as; the imposing courtyard, the green house, the authentic arches hall, the huge great porch, the historic main arch, the iron structure temple and not forgetting the enchanting private forest and the 16,000 square meters of gardens with the infinite pool and palm trees. We also invite the couple to sleep to the nuptial room the day of the wedding. The venue also offers a plan B in case.

How many guests can you cater for?

We can host more than 250 guests in the garden because we have a big extension and 200 guests in the arches hall.

What is it that makes your property magic?

Whoever comes and chooses Cortal Gran says that it has a special energy, that they feel supported and accompanied with a lot of affection. Cortal Gran is the dream of our life and our family, we have created everything with great love and we want every couple to feel like home.

We are passionate about our work and that hundreds of couples have chosen us to celebrate one of the most magical days of their lives. We live it with great enthusiasm and that is transmitted in every detail.

What advice can you give couples when selecting their venue?

We recommend that they see how you feel in the space, what the place and the person they are dealing with and will be dealing with during the process awakens them. We recommend that they take their time, look at several spaces to compare and assess what is important to them (each couple has their own important requirements).

On the other hand, they should consider whether there is plan B (if not, consider additional costs), see if there are enough toilets and ask if they have electrical installation capable of holding a wedding.
