What was the spark for Elvis Robertson Ceramics? Where did the story begin?

By chance I started a pottery class to give myself some time away from my textile work and make some accessories for my cloths. I showed my first attempts on instagram; suddenly I was inundated with orders. One year in I relish having found my eye, feel and passion for ceramics and having so much still to learn is a real thrill. My work has been so well received I have never looked back and am incredibly excited about the future.

What inspires you creatively?

Every day I wake up excited about ideas, colours, shapes, atmospheres. I will walk along the beach, lie in fields listening to the wind rustling through corn, bring in leaves and twigs from outside, read.. everything can be inspiring in ways we don’t expect if we keep our minds open.Learning an entirely new discipline has been a most inspiring experience.. I am constantly humbled by what I don’t know and determined to improve, learn and develop.

Most memorable place you’ve travelled?

Barcelona has a fantastic creative energy for me. I enjoy the quiet of the British coastline, secret coves.. the incredible contrasts of the Middle East, the coolness of Paris.. but there is something constantly changing about Barcelona and of course – London. But give me any quiet beach on a warm day and I can dream in the clouds most happily.

On a typical weekend we’ll find you?

Slow breakfast.. foraging materials to fire.. making fires in my bins or family paddle boarding on the sea.
