Behind The Brand

Describe the woman you design for…

The woman I think of when I design is one who has a respect for quality, an appreciation for sustainable design and a love for music, art, film and poetry. She might not know she is this woman, but she is drawn to our style and in turn, she leaves feeling like herself, a wonderful version of herself.

A favorite quote I am inspired by when designing is:

“This is the recipe of life
said my mother
as she held me in her arms as I wept
think of those flowers you plant
in the garden each year
they will teach you
that people too
must wilt
fall
root
rise
in order to bloom”

What is your most popular piece?

Our collections of Natural gowns are really well received as they flatter many figure types with their feminine and fluid silk fit. The 1.2 Natural Gown (v neckline) is fantastic for a bride with curves, the thicker strap balances the hip. The 1.6 Natural Gown (open-back t-shirt) is modern and simple. Our 2.1 Tulle gown is popular among American Brides and 2.2 Satin Organza Mini is perfect for elopements, as a party dress or for an intimate non-wedding wedding.

What advice would you give to brides-to-be?

This is when I think dreaming of your wedding day before you’re engaged can be a great base to check in with. It’s very easy to get lost in the Instagram/Pinterest world and have mixed ideas about what you want to wear. Go with your gut instincts, let what you choose be a reflection of how you dress and what you feel comfortable in. And definitely go with the feeling, it has to feel right and feel really good! It’s such a special day, but don’t let that overwhelm you. Let the whole day simply be a reflection of your relationship, of your love.

As a designer, what tips do you have for brides to get the most out of their fittings?

Choose your designer because you feel good around them and you trust them. That trust will lead to a really special and beautiful process.

It’s very exciting to bring your closest friends and family to fittings- maybe do this for a fitting down the track but I do recommend going on your own, especially for those first fittings to decide on your gown.

Do you offer a custom design service for brides? If so, how long does it take to make a custom piece?

We offer a very small amount of custom pieces per year and these take 8-18 months to create. Over the past 6 years we have evolved from a completely bespoke offering to a made to order collection that’s now expanding into boutiques in Australia and internationally.

What advice do you give to brides to care for their gown?

Keep your gown boxed/ laying flat in the gown bag until the week before your wedding day, then hang in the gown bag to allow any creases to drop out. The majority of our fabrics are natural fibres and can be steamed or pressed with a cloth the day of/ day before.

After your wedding, have your pieces dry cleaned with a really top quality dry cleaner. Do not skimp on this, and make sure they have access to a care label/ fabric details for minimum damage risk. Some of our pieces (2.1 tulle gown, 2.2 satin organza mini, veils) can be spot cleaned with a little water and sard soap over a towel.

With our embellished veils, we love the idea of hanging them in your home as an artwork, in your bedroom or future child’s room. We want our brides to re-wear their wedding outfits and are continually designing with this in mind.
