Isabella Pratesi, based in Tuscany, works in a beautiful photography studio set inside a country house on the hills of Carmignano. She trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. Drawing inspiration from beauty in all its forms, art, and nature, her work is intertwined with deep empathy and sensitivity, defining her distinctive style. A love for portraiture, blended with reportage and a passion for capturing real-life moments of joy and beauty, lies at the heart of her photography. What draws you to wedding photography?

Real life. Connecting empathically to people’s lives, immersing myself in their emotions and experiences, in order to create a story through my vision: a vision that celebrates life, with its intense moments, its laughter, tears, and wild dances.

How would you describe your photography style?

My style is unique because it varies depending on the moments of the wedding. Starting from the preparation of the couple, a moment when I step in quietly and capture what is happening. Then, there’s the father’s first look at his daughter in her wedding dress, as well as the groom’s friends helping him get ready – and why not include a few unexpected, playful moments? Moving on to the discretion of the church ceremony, followed by the couple’s photo session, where I aim to connect with them intimately and capture their true essence – the beauty of a portrait, with light as my greatest ally. Finally, I capture the joy of a toast at the table and the vibrant energy of the dancing. Every wedding has its own unique rhythm, a story that deserves to be celebrated and told. My approach is to enhance elegance, draw inspiration from art, and always stay true to the moment.

What inspires you creatively?

I’m inspired by many things, but most of all, I’m drawn to the beauty in everyday life – the small, fleeting moments that often go unnoticed. Nature’s ever-changing light and textures is a constant source of inspiration. I also find creativity in art, both classical and contemporary, and in the emotional depth of human connections. People and their raw, honest stories inspire me to capture moments that feel authentic and timeless. Whether it’s the simple elegance of a gesture, the intensity of a fleeting glance or the energy of a celebration, I aim to reflect the truth and beauty of those moments through my lens.

What is it that makes an image magical?

An image becomes magical when it evokes an emotional response – when it makes you feel something deeply. Whether it’s joy, nostalgia, awe, or even quiet contemplation. It’s about capturing a moment that feels alive, that tells a story beyond the surface. Sometimes, it’s the way light dances across a subject, the perfect timing of a gesture, or the subtle details that tell you more than words ever could. Magic often lies in the imperfections too – the raw, unposed moments that show vulnerability or true connection. A truly magical image has the power to transport you to that moment, to make you experience it again, just as if you were there. For me, it’s about creating a sense of wonder and timelessness that resonates long after the image is taken. Certainly, at the heart of a magical image is the connection between the photographer and the subject. This is one of my core principles: the subject must be willing to open up, trust, and place themselves in my hands with peace and happiness. Only after establishing this connection can truly magical images be created.

Your dream location to shoot a wedding?

I love my beloved Tuscany. Its warm light, the cypress trees, the delicious food, and the wonderful people it hosts, but what I love even more is traveling and capturing new landscapes through my lens.
