Behind The Brand
How would you describe your photography style?
Fluent, emotional and editorial. When I photograph, I often try and put myself in the shoes of the people on the other side of the camera, that way what comes through is the true essence of what they feel. I’m a big believer in true beauty being nestled amongst the magical moments in-between, so as long as the couples I’m photographing are happy, comfortable and enjoying themselves, then I’m confident that I’ll always document their love perfectly.
What is it that makes an image magical?
The two people standing in front of the lens. Obviously things like composition, lighting etc play a role, but nothing trumps the on-fire-chemistry between the couple.
What advice would you give to the camera-shy couple?
Practice at home. It might sound strange but it will help to make sure you get the photos that you want. I make it a priority to help every couple feel as comfortable as possible, but if you guys have your poses down, I’ll help fill in the gaps. Otherwise pre-wedding/engagement shoots are always great, it gives you a chance to get to know how your photographer works and vice-versa, plus you’ll both have the confidence of the superstars that you are on your day.
Do you travel interstate or internationally?
Bit of both, more internationally. My partner is a wedding videographer so between us we booked two weddings in Greece last year, one in Bali, an engagement shoot in California & we’re off to NYC for a wedding at The Foundry in July!
As an estimate, how long does your editing process take?
I take a lot of pride in my editing, it plays a very important role in the final gallery so I don’t rush it. I usually supply the couple a preview within 3-5 days after their wedding, and the edit will generally take me 8-10 weeks.
Describe a magical moment from a wedding you’ve photographed…
It would have to be the very first one I shot. I went to high-school with the bride Kim, and at the time when she asked if I’d shoot her day on both 35mm film and digital I was only really shooting in the fashion space. I didn’t see Kim until she stepped out of the car before the ceremony – I almost fell over (whilst trying to take photos), she looked absolutely breathtaking & then capturing Josh’s reaction when she appeared was like something out of a fairytale.
