About Magdalena Mayrock
Magdalena Mayrock creates wedding gowns for sophisticated and fashion-conscious women who expect high quality and appreciate clean designs with clear silhouettes and an elegant but casual attitude.
Inspired by minimalism and the style elements of modern architecture, the Berlin based designer artfully combines geometric elements and flowing shapes. Applying elaborate techniques of Haute Couture, such as hand-layered folds, three-dimensional applications and the processing of finest silk fabrics and feathers, Magdalena lends her creations luxurious sophistication and artistic flair.
All gowns are made to order and subject to the principles of sustainable and fair production.
Behind The Brand
Describe the woman you design for…
I design wedding gowns for sophisticated and fashion-conscious women who expect the best quality and appreciate a minimalist design. I count many architects, lawyers and doctors among my clients. Strong, self-confident women who stay true to their style and underline their personality on their wedding day with an elegant silk dress.
What is your most popular piece?
Our signature dress Faye is very popular for civil weddings. It is therefore an integral part of our collections and is constantly being reinterpreted. You can see the graphic elements here very well, which play a big role in my design. I like to play with overlaps, lines and subtle cut-outs that underline the female silhouette without exposing it.
What advice would you give to brides-to-be?
It is better to plan more time for your wedding dress, to avoid stress and compromises in the end. Reflect on which dresses you feel comfortable in and which silhouettes and necklines you prefer and like to wear. Pay attention to high-quality materials and good craftsmanship. And finally, you should be true to yourself and not let yourself be persuaded. Everyone you ask will have a certain opinion on how you should look on your wedding day. However, it is important that you stay true to your style and reflect your personality.
As a designer, what tips do you have for brides to get the most out of their fittings?
Arrange your appointments so that you can attend them relaxed and not stressed after work. It is best to come alone or, if you are unsure, with a trusted friend. Wear skin-coloured, seamless underwear. And think about the accessories early, so that you can try them on at the fittings.
Do you offer a custom design service for brides? If so, how long does it take to make a custom piece?
Yes, we offer a custom design service for brides in our Berlin studio. We recommend making an appointment 6-12 months before the wedding date. Depending on the customer’s wishes, some fabrics have longer delivery times because they must be woven first. We order many of our fabrics from traditional houses in Italy and France. Quality comes first. And good craft takes time.
What advice do you give to brides to care for their gown?
Before the wedding, you should store your dress in a breathable garment bag, dry and protected from sunlight. Make sure that the hanger fits the dress and does not stretch the fabric in places. A few days before the wedding, you can unpack it from the garment bag and hang it up so that the fabric can unfold. On the day before the wedding, you can steam it carefully. Make sure that you don’t leave any water droplets on the dress. This can quickly lead to stains on satin fabrics. After the wedding, you should have your dress professionally cleaned. Then you can also keep your dress in a large box. Wrap it in acid-free tissue paper to avoid stains. Later on, you have the option to have your dress altered and wear it for a different occasion. Before the 20th century, it was even common to wear your wedding dress not only on the day of the wedding, but to other special events as well.
Editor’s Notes
Why we love it…
Minimalist silk dresses and suits that artfully weave geometric elements together with natural flowing shapes for a beautifully unexpected contrast. Effortlessly languid silhouettes in simple but masterful cuts catch our eye when it comes to Magdalena Mayrock’s gowns.
For the woman…
For the woman looking for an undone but sophisticated silhouette to wear on her wedding day, or non-traditional dresses for her bridesmaids. She is drawn to minimalist design, accented with unexpected details like cutouts and subtle 3D appliqués – pieces that she will wear long after her wedding.
Styling tips…
Magdalena Mayrock’s simple silhouettes are pared-back and masterful in their restraint, pairing perfectly with bolder accessories and artisanal jewels. Don’t be afraid to slick your hair back or pair your Magdalena Mayrock creation with a softly stained lip for a soft-but strong aesthetic.
