About Shona Joy

Born in Bondi Beach, Shona Joy epitomises the polished bohemian. Drawing inspiration from musings past and present to create pieces that reflect the now. Renowned for feminine silhouettes, fine fabrics and signature prints with a touch of 70s glamour. Designed for the global traveller who worships the sun and chases an eternal summer.

Behind The Brand

Describe the woman you design for…

We design for the modern woman; she is smart, inspired and passionate. She’s traveller with a global outlook who worships the beach, the sun and chases an eternal summer. She references trends, but is not a follower; her look is relaxed yet refined, feminine and natural.

What is your most popular piece?

Our brides are moving away from the conventional expectations for bridal, instead seeking a more authentic, paired-back look that is true to their own personal style. Our brides have been gravitating toward our classic bias-cut silhouettes, cowl necklines and creamy shades of ivory, porcelain and crème.

Do you offer a custom design service for brides? If so, how long does it take to make a custom piece?

We don’t offer a custom design service, however in releasing five ready-to-wear collections each year, we always have something new for our brides-to-be. Each collection has a completely different look and feel, with a touch of our signature 70s bohemian glamour.

What advice do you give to brides to care for their gown?

Our dresses are designed to be worn time and time again. Our Wedding Edit is a curated assortment of glamorous modern, yet classic silhouettes in luxe fabrics that transcend seasonal trends – we love to see our brides give their gowns a second life.

What was the spark for Shona Joy? Where did the story begin?

The brand was born from a love of collecting classic vintage pieces at thrift stores and hunting for treasures at iconic markets. Our designs were sold at Bondi Beach and Paddington markets before the brand expanded globally, but will always remain true to our laid-back Australian identity.

What inspires you creatively?

We’re inspired a nostalgia for the 60s and 70s – an era of print and texture which is referenced in all of our designs.

Editor’s Notes

Why we love it…

Ready to wear pieces in dreamy muted palettes and liquid-like silk made from the most luxurious fabrics. These dresses are season-less, offer so much diversity for styling and are definitely pieces you’d wear again.

For the woman…

For brides looking for an understated dress to wear on her wedding day, or beautiful non-traditional gowns for her bridesmaids. A dress that she will actually wear again after the wedding, and a great addition to her honeymoon or vacation wardrobe.

Styling tips…

We’d pair these dresses with lose beach waves, natural sun-kissed makeup and statement gold jewelry to encapsulate the 70’s vibe.
