About Shona Joy

Born in Bondi Beach, Shona Joy epitomises the polished bohemian. Drawing inspiration from musings past and present to create pieces that reflect the now. Renowned for feminine silhouettes, fine fabrics and signature prints with a touch of 70s glamour. Designed for the global traveller who worships the sun and chases an eternal summer.

Behind The Brand

Describe the woman you design for…

We design for the modern woman; she is smart, inspired and passionate. She’s traveller with a global outlook who worships the beach, the sun and chases an eternal summer. She references trends, but is not a follower; her look is relaxed yet refined, feminine and natural.

What is your most popular piece?

Our brides are moving away from the conventional expectations for their big day, instead seeking a more authentic, paired-back styling that is true to their own personal style. In doing so, when choosing looks for their bridesmaids, our brides have gravitated toward a more neutral color-palette and paired-back styling of our classic bias-cut silhouettes, cowl necklines and creamy shades of ivory, porcelain and créme. The ability to mix and match silhouettes in the same fabrication and color-palette is so important to our brides, to ensure every woman within their bridal party feels amazing on the day in a shape that flatters their figure but is consistent with their vision.

Do you offer a custom design service for bridesmaids? If so, how long does it take to make a custom piece?

We don’t offer a custom design service, however in releasing five ready-to-wear collections each year, we are constantly evolving our offering, introducing new silhouettes and seasonal color-palettes as part of our Wedding Edit. Our designs are modern, yet classic – with shades and styles to suite any wedding style, but always with a touch of our signature 70s bohemian glamour.

What styling tips and fashion advice do you have for wedding guests?

Opt for a look that is authentic to your own style and will last the test of time when the wedding photos appear in the years that follow. To us, a great dress transcends any season, occasion, day or evening and looks just as glamorous in heels or bare feet.

Editor’s Notes

Why we love it…

Ready to wear pieces in dreamy muted palettes and liquid-like silk made from the most luxurious fabrics. These dresses are season-less, offer so much diversity for styling and are definitely pieces you’d wear again.

For the woman…

For brides looking for an understated dress to wear on her wedding day, or beautiful non-traditional gowns for her bridesmaids. A dress that she will actually wear again after the wedding, and a great addition to her honeymoon or vacation wardrobe.

Styling tips…

We’d pair these dresses with lose beach waves, natural sun-kissed makeup and statement gold jewelry to encapsulate the 70’s vibe. Mix and match your bridesmaids in different styles instead of having them all in the same dress for a more modern and relaxed approach.
