Behind The Brand
What was the spark for The Small Things Co? Where did your story begin?
I was working full time in a Social Work position, but being a creative person working 9 until 5 was not quenching my creative thirst.
After Tom and I got married, we had a few pieces left over from our wedding. In particular a gold geometric wishing well that I had lovingly sourced from America.
So yes, it all started with a wishing well. I had spent so much time sourcing these pieces that I didn’t want to keep them to ourselves, so we began hiring them out on Gumtree.
Once the hiring picked up, we bought some more unique pieces and so The Small Things Co journey began. We made a website with our hire store, registered our name and built our social media platforms.
People started to fall in love with our pieces as much as we had, and this continues to drive us to grow our range. Soon enough we became so busy that we moved out of our garage and into our shop front in Abbotsford.
We really craved being able to provide a professional service and be taken seriously in the industry, so this move was such an important decision.
How would you describe your style when it comes to your products and services?
We really can work with any style, but what gets us going is definitely a rich colour palette. Dark and moody tones with beautiful romantic candlelight are totally our vibe.
We also love playing with textures such as linen, stone, pottery, marble and velvet. We are absolutely loving the terracotta and mustard trend that is happening right now.
The hard part is often convincing couples to do something different to what they see on social media at the moment, to push the boundaries just a little.

Full Planning and Styling Package
Our top package includes sourcing and coordination of all suppliers required for the couples day. Within the package, we also provide $750 to spend on decor from our hire range, which a lot of couples find great value in.
What advice would you give couples when deciding on a theme or style for their wedding?
Firstly.. You do you! Don’t worry about what others are doing, but go with your gut and go with what you love. You’ll have a much better time during the planning process if you stop worrying about what everyone else thinks.
Secondly, if you are styling your own wedding. Choose an element as a base, it might be your bouquet or a particular colour you are loving at your venue.
Then grow your look from there, and allow the other details such as stationary, napery and decor to be influenced from your base.
