About Theresa Kelly
Theresa Kelly is a destination wedding photographer based between the United States and Italy. She was raised in the midwest, snapping film cameras since a young age or pouring over National Geographic magazines. Her passion for art and travel led to 10 years of international freelancing. After living in Greece photographing luxury villas and restaurants, she returned to the US to turn her attention to wedding photography.
Her goal is to enrich the lives of couples by preserving their most important stories in a style that is soulful, cinematic, and honest. She wishes to transform their most valuable moments into heirlooms that transcend time and the limitations of memory.
Behind The Brand
How would you describe your photography style?
Soulful, honest, effortless elegance with an editorial flair. I’m inspired by classic fashion photography and paintings, making my style a mix of cinematic fine art, and the perfectly imperfect. I believe when a wedding is captured like artistic mediums that stand the test of time, those images will be timeless, too.
What is it that makes an image magical?
When the right light and the perfect emotion come together at precisely a single decisive moment that could never be replicated. It makes you feel something. It causes the viewer to dream about all the other moments surrounding this one.
What advice would you give to the camera-shy couple?
No couple is the same. A skilled wedding photographer senses the best approach based on the couple’s unique chemistry and comfort. I find comfort in front of the camera begins with comfort with me as a person, which I foster for a long time before any photos are taken.
On the wedding day, if it feels effortless and natural, that’s how your photos will look. I try to keep things short, using movement, giving only subtle directions. Keeping the couple in the moment creates more natural interactions.
Do you travel interstate or internationally?
Yes, I split time between the United States and Italy, and never refuse a chance to travel. I spent my twenties backpacking all around the world so it feels natural to capture love stories in inspiring places.
As an estimate, how long does your editing process take?
I tell couples 6-10 weeks depending on my travel schedule, the volume of work in that season, and other factors. I adore editing, so I make sure I edit in a headspace free of distractions to focus with my best energy.
Describe a magical moment from a wedding you’ve photographed…
I always choke up at witnessing the tenderness between grandparents. I miss mine so dearly. There are the moments I adore that will never wind up on social media, but the couple cherishes more than anything because of who they’ve captured. Otherwise, I appreciate being caught up in the belly of a great celebration- the kind of party so full of participation it’s as if you are being moved by the waves of an ocean. I’ve been swept up in euphoric dancefloors packed with guests, filled with dancers and costumed entertainers, with lights, music, and the whole 9. The party becomes a celebration of life and a feeling in of itself – those are the absolute best.
