About True Paper Tales

A fine art design studio specialising in bespoke venue illustration and destination wedding invitation design.

Their aesthetic is artful, organic and wildly romantic. For them, wedding stationery holds so much more than simple written words.  It’s a beautiful way of preserving your memories. They savour the textures, elegance and romance that is created by using illustration and watercolour art on their delicate handmade papers.

Including a venue illustration on your stationery imbues a sense of nostalgia and meaning, adding a personal touch that you and your guests will cherish long after your wedding day.

Behind The Brand

Do you offer custom bespoke services?

We offer a number of different bespoke illustration and design services, from wedding invitation suites through to on-the-day stationery. Sought after services include watercolour or pencil illustration, destination wedding venue illustration, customised wedding map, and signature cocktail signs. By incorporating those unique elements from your wedding journey into each stationery piece, your whole design is tied together to deliver one cohesive story.

Do you offer pre-designed suites?

Although the majority of requests we receive from couples are for destination wedding invitations, clients can choose any of the designs that are shown in our online gallery for their own stationery.  Each of those designs can be customised further to reflect the couple’s individual style.

How would you describe your style when it comes to your products and services?

Our style is wildly romantic, artful and sophisticated. Each design is carefully crafted after extensive consultation with our couples, to ensure that every detail reflects their personal style and aesthetic.

We are old world romantic paper-lovers, with a particular passion for only using delicately soft, tactile papers, that have been handmade or recycled from ethical and sustainable sources.  And in doing so, we pay homage to the artisanal process of paper making, where each sheet is made by hand, one piece at a time.

Although we are a tad obsessive when it comes to our attention to detail, we pride ourselves on offering a professional yet relaxed approach, to make your design process a smooth, enjoyable and stress free experience.

What is the general lead time for your custom/bespoke designs?

Customised invitations generally take anywhere between 4 – 12 weeks. We undertake extensive research for each illustration, which involves consultation with our couples around the exact style and attributes of the venue they want reflected in their stationery.  The lead time can vary significantly and sometimes take longer than 12 weeks, depending on the number and complexity of illustrations requested, as well as the number of different pieces that illustrations may need to be prepared for (ie wedding invitation suite as well as on-the-day pieces).

As with any design process, it relies heavily on communication between client and vendor and how responsive we are to each other, so we invest a lot of time into communicating to ensure our couples receive a stellar, stress free and seamless service.

What advice would you give couples when designing their wedding invitations?

Your wedding invitations provide the first glimpse of inspiration for your guests, and create a sense of intrigue and excitement for the celebration that is to follow.

Your invitations have a great story to tell; they preserve your magical day, represent your love and relationship, and are the witness to the start of your life together.

So the advice we give our couples is to reflect on which aspects of their wedding celebrations they would like memorialised into their stationery. They may want to incorporate the azure colour of the sea off the Amalfi coast where they are getting married, include some delicate florals that are part of the bridal bouquet, a sweet chapel illustration where they are exchanging vows, or an illustrated map that can be given as a lovely keepsake for their guests.

As for the remainder of the design process, we help our couples every step of the way with mood boards, font selections, calligraphy styles, ink colours that compliment their colour palette, and gorgeous paper selections, to make sure their stationery is exactly the way they envisaged it.
