Every bridal fashion week there are stand out shows we fall in love with, pieces that capture our attention and dresses we dream of long after the runways. For us this season was all about the smaller, boutique labels who are breathing new life into the traditional world of bridal. One of our favorites was New York City based, LEIN with a dreamy collection that blurred the lines between bridal, ready to wear and resort, with exquisite textural finishes that added a rawness and nonchalence to weightless silhouettes and gauzy cottons…pieces that had us dreaming of barefoot weddings and summer vacation escapes.
What inspired the latest collection?
‘I wanted to evoke Americana spirit, which to me is the toughness and natural grandeur of the West, but keeping with modern luxury and staying true to the romantic and feminine make-up of the brand. Sheer gingham fabric, cotton & silk faille, ruffles, double faced chiffons, brushed white denim, raw edges, relaxed fit, tough but feminine, elegant but daring.’
Who are your muses that you’d love to see dressed in LEIN?
‘I have a major girl crush on Clemence Poesy. She has this perfect tomboy style but with a feminine edge that makes it both timeless and fresh. She is the girl I design for, and a girl I want to be friends with. Effortless is a term that is so overused but I think she really is that. She has that natural cool girl confidence that exudes the “I didn’t do anything to my hair” look. Plus, she’s always in denim – a girl after my own heart.
I also always find myself referencing Brigitte Bardot, but the off-duty Brigitte as a muse. I love finding an old snapshot from her skiing in Aspen or hanging at the beach with friends – barefoot, hair undone and in her favorite pair of jeans.
“I love denim, if I could wear jeans and a tee shirt every day I would.”
We love how experimental you are with fabrics… and this season we saw pieces created unexpectedly with denim (which of course only you could execute to perfection!) Tell us a little bit more about this fabric…
It’s such an ode to the Americana lifestyle and is such a nostalgic fabric – it reminds me of my summers out west. So when I found the brushed denim it felt organic to this collection. The brushed finishing is soft to the touch and with the stiffness of denim, it becomes a really elevated look. I also just love the juxtaposition of the organza and the cotton denim, feminine and utilitarian. I like to find that happy place between girly-girl and tomboy. And, I always prefer a raw edge as it makes it a bit of that “undone” I love, while still looking put together.’
