Opulent Elegance in The Netherlands

Photography by Jeroen Noordzij for Marilyn & Daniel

Intimate and effortlessly elegant, Marilyn and Daniel wed within a majestic medieval church in the heart of Rotterdam. A ceremony both stylish and sentimental (Marilyn’s father was their celebrant on the day), rings were exchanged before a small gathering of friends and family, encircled by the grandeur of their location, glinting candlelight, and bold, white blooms.

The bride, a sophisticated vision in a beaded J.Andreatta gown and the groom, suave in black-tie from Suit Supply, emanated love and elation throughout the entire celebration, beautifully depicted through the lens of Jeroen Noordzij.

How We Met

We have known each other since we were children but only fell in love at a later age.

Our Engagement Story

We just bought our first house together and were almost done with the renovation. One night, Daniel decorated the entire house and brought me there with a silly excuse, and that evening he popped the question.

Marriage To Us Means…

Marriage to us is more than just promising each other eternal love and faith. We love each other and want to share the rest of our lives together, but it’s also from a religious point of view. With marriage, you also create an extra bond with God. And if God is in your heart, he will be your helper, your keeper, bringer of peace and calm. That’s why we asked for his blessing on our wedding day.

The Details

Wedding Location

The Laurenskerk in Rotterdam.

Preparation

I got ready with my sisters at my parent’s house, it was a really relaxed morning with a small brunch. Daniel was getting ready with his brother and father in our apartment, it was very low-key.

Overall Aesthetic / Style

We wanted our wedding to feel warm, classy, and fashionable. The church was already such a beautiful place, with off-white stone-washed walls and intricate gold details. We just enhanced it with some beautiful big white floral arrangements.

Ceremony Décor

Our ceremony decor was very minimal as the church already had so much beauty. The big floral arrangements are from Atelier Krijn Verboom from Rotterdam. We had a big, beautiful long aisle with a white carpet and candle lights on each side.

Reception Décor

For the reception, the styling was also very minimal. We had some high tables with delicate linens, drinks and decadent desserts.

Wedding Planner / Stylist

We had the help of a friend of ours Liesbeth, who together with her mother, organized everything on the day itself making sure the day went as smoothly as possible.

Photography

Our photographer was Jeroen Noordzij. From the moment I found him I loved his work because it’s fresh, unique and a great mix between fashion and wedding photography. He has an eye for detail and we were comfortable with him from the start. He captured our day even better than I could have expected.

Videography

I reached out to a former friend from school to make a small video of our wedding day, just the way it was. Romantic and joyful.

Fashion Notes

Bride’s Dress

I wore the J.Andreatta, ‘Cafe de Flore‘ gown. When I saw this dress I knew straight away it was the one. A beautifully fashionable gown, slimming with gorgeous embroidery details and sheer sleeves.

Bride’s Shoes

I found my shoes on ASOS.

Bridesmaids Dresses

The bridesmaid’s dresses were all from Bec & Bridge. And all in the same silky material in an off-white color to match the palette of the day.

Wedding Rings

We didn’t really look for a set of rings, but more so two separate rings that suited our personalities. Daniel went for a white gold ring and I chose a rose gold ring with small diamonds.

Groomsmen Attire

The suit was from Suit Supply and the shoes from Dr. Martens.

Hair

My hair was done in a sleek ponytail to give it a minimal look.

Makeup

Jaizsy Ridder did my make-up in such a beautiful way. It was done in a very natural way and enhanced all my features without overdoing it.

Style Notes

Stationery / Invitations

I made our stationery and invitations according to the color scheme of our wedding in white, gold, and black.

Flowers & Bouquets

All of our floral designs came from Atelier Krijn Verboom. We chose all-white florals; from my bridal bouquet to the beautiful floral backdrop in the church, and for our reception dinner. White and big – that was the idea.

Cake

A minimal cake with Swiss cream.

Food & Beverages

We had a sit-down dinner with the entire wedding party with multiple courses and amazing drinks.

Transport

We arrived and departed our wedding in a black Mercedes G wagon.

Wedding Songs

Multiple beautiful gospel songs were sung, supported by our lovely friends and family on the a piano, a saxophone and a guitar.

Celebrant

My dad, Edgar Holder.

One Thing I Wish I Knew Before I Started My Wedding Plans…

Basically, the costs. It will always be more than expected, so be aware.

If I Could Give Brides to be One Piece of Advice…

It sounds cliche, but you have to relax! Some things just won’t go the way you had hoped for, but go with the flow and make sure you find your way within that flow. That way you do not fall victim to stress, but you stay in control of your beautiful wedding day.
