Within the dreamy, light-filled walls of Sydney’s China Heights Studio, The Lane’s first Portfolio Building Photography Workshop was brought to life. Alongside a coterie of talented industry creatives, an event spilling with bespoke styling and exquisite design ensued. Here, a small assemblage of Australia’s up and coming wedding photographers moved through the space, capturing a series of installations through their own eyes.
Our Editors worked one-on-one with each photographer within three immersive sessions – lifestyle, couples and bridal fashion. With an aim to seek the unexpected, find pockets of beauty and tell the story of each installation in their own poetic way, photographers Lover of Mine, Hello Chloe May, Dean Snushall, Bulb Creative, Megan Kelly, The Loved Ones, Ivy Road Photography and Lucie Weddings experimented with new techniques and drew upon influences that will seep into their future work.

Shooting a curated collection of some of our favorite bridal and jewelry designers, photographers worked intimately with The Lane Fashion Editor to artistically capture each ensemble. Harnessing light, mood and composition with an editorial approach, the photographers distilled each gown’s intricate and intoxicating details; from the ornate beading to the whisper-thin lace, to the undulating flow of featherweight fabric.
“Working closely with The Lane Editors one-on-one, photographers were guided through a series of set-ups styled and produced by The Lane team, capturing unexpected, inimitable content for their portfolios.”
Against an urban canvas of exposed brick walls, a series of beautifully styled tablescapes were designed for each photographer to navigate. The focus: to convey the mood and poetry of each setting, revealing the up-close details and story in its whole.
Styled By Her designed an all-white tablescape layered with textural detail and oriental elements. Kapis shell place cards sat within sleek marble bowls that elegantly juxtaposed ceramic vessels and bark-wrapped menus. A spherical paper lantern swung from above before the table was then altogether transformed, segueing into a dreamy composition of oceanic influence. Nearby, the studio’s panelled windows framed an incredible arbor by Pia + Jade, styled with orchids, roses and budding magnolias.
From The Hunted Yard, an autumnal-inspired table was set in a palette of earthen hues, its metallic touches gleamed betwixt wispy arrangements of textured branches. Adjacent, their midnight-hued creation drew its theme from a moodier aesthetic, with ebony-black anthuriums, crystal glassware and a focal feature of baby’s breath cascading delicately to the floor.
Working intimately with real couples wildly in love, photographers delved deep into the story behind each of their romance. Candidly extracting the rawness of emotion shared, the sensuality, the laughter, the stolen glances in between – each moment was poetically captured, transpiring into evocative frames certain to be treasured forever.
From the stunning, light-filled China Heights studio to the elegantly styled set-ups and contagious creative energy that danced palpably in the air – The Lane’s first photography workshop was an inspiring event that exceeded our wildest expectations. Each photographer brought a unique approach to the day, capturing incredible frames spilling with magic and soulful allure. Between sessions, photographers, couples and stylists swapped stories, sipped on champagne and sampled the decadent grazing spread created by Eleven Events.
