Behind The Brand

What was the initial spark for the property and how did it all begin?

The story of Manoir Hovey began with its roots in the rich cultural heritage of the Eastern Townships, first shaped by the Abenaki People and later by European settlers. The property itself was commissioned in 1899 by a wealthy American entrepreneur as a summer home inspired by George Washington’s Mount Vernon. In 1979, Steve and Kathryn Stafford fell in love with the estate while visiting and went on to acquire it, beginning the family-run legacy that continues today. Now led by their son Jason and his wife Melissa, Manoir Hovey carries forward the founders’ vision of timeless architecture, warm hospitality, and a deep connection to the region’s history.

What spaces do you offer for a wedding or event?

The Abénaki Room (maximum capacity of 80 people), located next to our historic bistro, the Tap Room, offers a panoramic view of Lake Massawippi and the gardens. If the property is booked in its entirety, our gardens will host cocktails and ceremonies. The wedding dinner will be served in our gastronomic restaurant, Le Hatley, privatized for the occasion.

How many guests can you cater for?

The Manoir Hovey can accommodate a maximum of 120 guests with full privatization.

What is it that makes your property magic?

The place Itself, of course. Nestled on 30 acres of forested shoreline, Manoir Hovey offers a setting of rare beauty for weddings, and special gatherings. Surrounded by the rolling hills, shimmering waters, and storybook villages of the Eastern Townships, it is a place where moments become memories.

What advice can you give couples when selecting their venue?

Follow your feelings. The place should reflect your emotions, your bond with those you cherish. It will be the backdrop for one of the most beautiful days of your life. You need to feel the place.
