Aka Innes is an editorial wedding photographer based in Sydney. She believes that photography is a love affair with life, because the art of photography illuminates life and magnifies its beauty. Her style is best described as a fusion of editorial and documentary. While her focus is on creating artful and poetic imagery with genuine mood and emotions.

Aka is a daydreamer who seeks wanderlust, she is a sucker for nostalgia and romance. This comes through in her work that leaves a sense of whimsy and wonder. With a keen eye for detail and mood, her aim is to create imagery that’s transportive, effortless and stand the test of time.

Behind The Brand

What draws you to wedding photography?

When I was looking for my own wedding photographer I discovered this whole new world that combines purposes and art. From that moment I was totally obsessed with what I could embody and fulfill as a storyteller and an artist.

How would you describe your photography style?

My work is dreamy, nostalgic, and painterly, although I’m certainly not limited to those styles. I aimed to create images that were not only telling stories, but also infused with a sense of magic and mood. A love of fashion photography also influences my work heavily as I adore the possibilities and the playfulness it provides. So I tend to see if I can add a little sparkle in my work whenever I get a chance.

What inspires you creatively?

I’m inspired truly by the world around me. Movies, visual art, travel, colors, textures, nature, and motion all show me their beauty and influence me wherever I am. Each image is unique and tells a different story. As the artist and the storyteller, I project how it feels and use that to connect with the audience.

What is it that makes an image magical?

I find myself drawn to those intriguing details, that certain je ne sais quoi, that evokes a sense of wonder and delight. It’s those moments that go beyond the mundane and transport me to a world of fascination.

What advice would you give couples when selecting their wedding photographer?

Picture the people that are going to be your friends or guests on your wedding day, it has to be someone who align with your style and vibe. Tell the photographer your worries, dreams, and visions and see how they can bring them to fruition.

Your dream location to shoot a wedding?

Lake Como or Puglia for the win.
