Behind The Brand

What was the spark for Brit Floral?

I knew when I was young I wanted to be an ‘artist,’ but didn’t know what medium. I tried a lot of things, from drawing, photography to ceramics. I tried to pursue an architecture degree in college because I thought it’d be the perfect balance of an ‘impressive’ career and art. Found out it wasn’t for me, so I graduated college with a Communications degree thinking art just wasn’t a practical pathway. I worked a corporate job in Los Angeles for a couple of years, but never felt creatively fulfilled. Moved back home to ‘find myself’ and worked in retail. Then 2020 came, and I was furloughed from my retail job, so I started making floral arrangements to give to friends amidst such hard times for people. I saw the joy it brought people. I felt creatively fulfilled and excited to explore more. Eventually flower orders turned into weddings and events. I became busy enough where I couldn’t juggle working my retail job and running the business. So made a leap of faith and decided to go all-in for my flower business and see what would unfold. Not all seasons were profitable, I walked dogs in the beginning to get by, but knew I’d do whatever it takes to stay afloat and keep on pursuing flowers. Super thankful for all of the mentor figures in my life and the people who believed in my work and have given me such special opportunities to grow.

What services do you offer couples?

Artistic floral arrangements, styling and installations for weddings and events in southern California and destination.

How would you describe your aesthetic?

Naturalistic, harmonious and delicate. It’s important to me that my work is inspired by the seasons, which gives it a more naturalistic look. Utilizing ingredients of what’s in season and respecting nature’s timing. I observe how plants and flowers naturally grow in the wild or in landscaping and try to mimic that in my work.

I believe flowers at an event should feel like an extension of their surroundings and a nod to nature. Also sourcing what is local from a network of farms, growers and foragers. I am very design driven and have a strong eye on how to curate a space while incorporating elements outside of flowers such as interior decor to enhance the floral experience. Highly inspired by textures such as natural stone since I feel that these elements are also found in their natural environment and often compliment the flowers. I enjoy sourcing from other artisans around the world to create a curated look with global influence – from raw, earthy ceramics in New York to hand-crafted travertine from Barcelona, Spain. My work incorporates sophisticated color palettes. Every arrangement is designed to be striking and visually interesting.

As a florist, what are you inspired by at the moment in the world of weddings?

I never get tired of going to all sorts of different venues and different locations. Each venue has its own personality and aesthetic, and it’s amazing to see what kinds of people it attracts, the town it’s in and how unique the natural surroundings can be to that venue.

What would you like to see less of?

Trends, they come and go and become overly saturated in people’s weddings. They are fun for inspiration, but when they are repeated over and over it becomes less special and unique. We want your day to be unique to you.

A styling/planning tip or two you’ve learned along the way that you’d give to any couple?

Have inspiration that is cohesive enough for your florist to know what direction you want to go in, and this will make the most impact. Trust your team and trust you chose them for a reason.
