Behind The Brand

What was the initial spark for your brand, how did it all begin?

My love for florals began in childhood, growing up surrounded by the diverse woodlands of the Pacific Northwest and the meticulously tended gardens of my Nana. I was hit with an insatiable awe for nature from a young age, and the juxtaposition and balance of these two landscapes is reflected in all of our work.

When I founded Extrafloral, it was on the principle that flowers always inherently bring joy and that our designs should do the same. I aimed to redefine the notion that luxury events require ostentatiously repetitive mounds of flowers. Instead, every arrangement we create is a thoughtful composition, curated as carefully as the other details in our clients’ stylish lives.

What services do you offer couples?

Assisting each couple in maximizing the potential of their vision and venue, we create sculptural floral arrangements, installations, and styling for weddings and events.

How would you describe your aesthetic?

Every arrangement that we create is meant to be playful yet sophisticated, architectural shapes are created from textural layered, delicate petals. Compositions are always unexpected—no two exactly the same—creating a sort of symphony for you and your guests to enjoy as you travel between the tables and spaces of your wedding.

As a florist, what are you inspired by at the moment in the world of weddings?

At the moment, I am deeply inspired by the creativity couples are infusing from their own lives into their weddings. Weddings are finally shying away from trends to lean into a unique experience to share with their guests.

What would you like to see less of?

Too many walls stifle creativity. Flexibility in floral varieties and, dare I say, colors, while keeping with a chosen aesthetic, is when the most beautiful work can be created.

A styling/planning tip or two you’ve learned along the way that you’d give to any couple?

A wedding is fundamentally more than a party; it’s a moment in time to share an expression of the creative and personal lives you and your partner have built together with those you love. Find moments of “you” in the details, from the scent of a summer excursion to the first song you danced to, there are so many spaces that can lend to inspiration. Second, name your priorities and be sure to communicate them to all of your vendors.
