From rafting and cycling to rice planting and rainforest cocktails, Sayan offers profound reconnection to nature and self.

Behind The Brand

What was the initial spark for the property and how did it all begin?

While Bali was traditionally known for its surf and sand, by the time Four Seasons Sayan was conceived (it opened in 1998), Ubud was gaining prominence as Bali’s artistic and cultural heart. The resort’s award-winning and innovative river valley design was a deliberate departure from beach-front resorts, catering to travellers seeking a more immersive, land-based cultural and wellness experience.

What spaces do you offer for a wedding or event?

From private villas to poolside partying, Four Seasons Sayan offers an utterly unique Balinese wedding or special event beyond the beaches. Say your vows high above the forest treetops at the rooftop Lotus Pond, with the resort’s magnificent suspension bridge as your aisle. Host an intimate gathering of canapés, Champagne cocktails and a traditional Balinese performance at Jati Bar and Ayung Terrace. We support you to bring your vision to vibrant life.

How many guests can you cater for?

From an intimate reception for 20 to poolside cocktails amongst the trees for 80, our venues offer different vibes and experiences. The rooftop Lotus Pond — an iconic circular infinity-edge pond appearing to float magically above the treetops — is one of our most popular venues and has a reception capacity of 20 guests. Located on the banks of the Ayung River, the Riverside Pool Terrace offers its own kind of magic under a canopy of flourishing tropical trees. It’s an ideal space for a traditional Indonesian rijsttafel dinner for up to 30 guests or a standing cocktail reception for up to 80 guests. Ayung Terrace can host receptions for up to 50 guests, while our Royal Villa is a luxurious two-storey, three-bedroom residence that provides ultimate privacy for up to 20 guests.

What is it that makes your property magic?

Connection to the island’s soul

Four Seasons Sayan was a bold vision to create a luxury resort that not only respected but actively embraced and amplified the unique natural beauty and spiritual essence of Bali’s Sayan Valley, offering a transformative arrival experience and a deep connection to the island’s soul.

Attuned to nature’s rhythms

Every step reveals a new layer of unfiltered natural splendour: lush rainforest, emerald rice paddies, aromatic herb gardens and sloping river banks – from the elevated open-air Lobby to the two-tier swimming pool cantilevered over the river.

Heartfelt service and local wisdom

Alongside nurturing and highly intuitive Four Seasons service, there’s an invitation to immerse in Bali’s wonders. Water-centred healing rituals performed by Balinese priests. Culinary masterclasses in “Bali’s most beautiful cooking school”. Traditional rice planting experiences. Four Seasons Sayan puts you in the heart of a vibrant culture.

What advice can you give couples when selecting their venue?

  • Start early – our popular venues book up quickly, especially at peak season.
  • Consider your guest numbers and event flow – match venue to size and think about transitions.
  • Communicate openly both with each other and your wedding planner – discuss your priorities and preferences throughout the process.
  • Consider the guest experience – choose a venue that will be comfortable and enjoyable for your loved ones.
