Jess discovered her love for jewelry early on after inheriting a few of her grandmother's vintage pieces. Elegant and exceptionally crafted, they held the charm of a different era, becoming pieces of constant inspiration.

Jess' work focuses on craft and timelessness — it’s jewelry for living in and living with, points of connection and classic beauty for the modern era. Jewelry for how it should be worn: never taken off.

J. Hannah is based in Downtown LA, and is hand made to order. Pieces are made from solid 14k gold or sterling silver, and all stones are ethically sourced or recycled.

Behind The Brand

Your best pieces of advice for event planning?

My best advice for any sort of planning would have to be to stay honest with yourself. Don’t over-schedule your vacation if you’re trying to relax, for example. You don’t have to buy a diamond solitaire ring because you got engaged, if you’re the type of person that prefers a simple band ring or a signet. You want something that will still feel you 20 years from now.

What was the spark for your brand? Where did the story begin?

Hannah’s foundation was built on a desire to create a new tradition of heirlooms by designing pared back pieces inspired by historical classics. The Clara collection plays out variations on a piece I inherited from my grandmother. I’m passionate about honoring sentimentally valuable objects, and designing this collection was paying homage and re-instilling vitality to something I don’t want to see left behind in the past.

Similar goes for Ceremony—I couldn’t find anyone producing the modern iteration of engagement rings and wedding bands. The goal for both brands is to elaborate on traditional design and make it accessible and appropriate for how we want to signify relationships today. It’s important to mark the shift in how we think about commitment by changing how we symbolize that love.

What inspires you creatively?

I’m inspired by my friends, many of whom are designers. I’m inspired by Los Angeles—it swells with diversity on every level and hosts so many aesthetics, landscapes, attitudes and cultures. I am also known to avidly monitor craigslist. We’ve started sharing our favorite Craigslist finds on our Instagram stories recently.

Most memorable place you’ve travelled?

Most recently I traveled to Mexico City. The goal was to absorb as much as I could while I was there, so I scheduled in a lot of design research and inspiration outings. While I was able to fit in a lot, it’s a design mecca and I only skimmed the surface.

On a typical weekend we’ll find you?

Spending time with friends or my 3 animal children in the backyard. Sometimes working…

A favorite quote?

My dad is full of Hungarian proverbs that sound just ever so slightly off when translated into english. A favorite:

“He who has butter on his head, should not go to the sun.”
