Behind the Brand

What draws you to wedding photography?

Photography is a way for me to tell love stories. I have always been a romantic and an observer. I love to look at relationships and how people interact with the world around them.

For a long time I didn’t know what the medium was going to be, but when a camera fell into my hands, I knew immediately. Photography allows me to delve into the connections that human beings have, and it’s magical. Capturing a memory for someone that will be there even when they are no longer on this planet.

There is something mystical and profound about capturing an instant from a specific perspective and with a specific intention. It’s the way we understand and relate to reality, and I still find it magical.

How would you describe your photography style?

There are several elements that can define my photography, although from my experience with my clients, they always end up defining it better than me; it is sensorial and elegant, it has something dreamlike and always tells a story, there are nuances that can be interpreted, as if the photo came to life.

For me, the mix between the natural and the cinematographic, comes true in my photos. Each person has something that makes them unique, and approaching that truth with my photography is something that attracts me enormously.

Elegant, romantic, passionate and undoubtedly close. My photography does not seek to simply make couples look like models, but to connect on an even deeper level with their love.

What inspires you creatively?

For me, creativity comes from many places, but mostly from film and from what my couples tell me about themselves.

Cinema has always inspired me, and it is an inexhaustible source of inspiration especially when you know where to look. I have always considered my partners as actors in a movie that has not yet been filmed. And in that way it is much more exciting to be able to create together with them.

Music and books are also a place where I constantly turn to for inspiration, a good song can inspire a whole wedding, and each note can be a movement for my couples.

Lastly, I do a lot of work to get to know my couples to the fullest, their story and their learnings is something that always helps me create something that is really real for them.

What is it that makes an image magical?

An image is magical when it has nuances. When there is a dichotomy, when it is not obvious in what it wants to show, when it is open to interpretation, however slight.

I love that a person who sees one of my photographs, without having seen any of my work, and without knowing the couple, can create a story and imagine who they are simply through a photo.

For me that’s the magic. Making the recognizable unrecognizable and vice versa. We all have something magical inside of us, and to bring that out of two people, is without a doubt, something worth looking for.

What advice would you give couples when selecting their wedding photographer?

The wedding photographer is the person who will spend the most time with you on your wedding day. He or she can reassure you and make you feel amazing, or the opposite.

My advice is the same advice I gave myself when I was looking for a photographer for my wedding. I want someone who sees me as I am, and at the same time sees things in me that I don’t know.

My recommendation is not to get carried away by trends, but to look for “something more”, that feeling with the photographer’s work and above all with that person’s personality. A wedding with a professional with whom you really connect will be a much more gratifying experience.

Your dream location to shoot a wedding?

Luckily I have already been to many of the places where I have always wanted to work. But I still have a couple of thorns that I want to pull out.

First of all I would love to photograph in deep Africa, those landscapes captivate me and I’m sure I could create something wonderful in Kenya, Ethiopia or Egypt.

An urban wedding in Tokyo or any other city in Japan is something I really want to do as well.
