Behind The Brand

What was the spark for beginning your brand?

KARAAT was born out of a deeply personal moment some years ago – my husband and I searched for engagement rings and found ourselves torn between beautiful designs and our shared commitment to sustainability. We couldn’t find a brand that truly aligned with both. That experience sparked the idea to create KARAAT, a brand where couples like us wouldn’t have to choose between exceptional craftsmanship and ethical practices.

I wanted to redefine fine jewelry by combining lab-grown diamonds and recycled gold, proving that luxury could be modern, sustainable, and meaningful. KARAAT is not just a brand; it’s a celebration of love, crafted into each of our timeless designs.

How would you describe your aesthetic?

We aim to create pieces that feel as relevant today as they will for generations to come, designed to be cherished and even passed down as heirlooms. KARAAT’s aesthetic is timeless with a twist – elegance rooted in simplicity, but with bold, clean lines that feel undeniably modern. Each design is created to highlight the beauty of the materials and the story behind the piece. There’s also a nod to Italian craftsmanship in the meticulous attention to detail, balanced with the Scandinavian love for minimalism and functionality.

What inspires you creatively?

Our designs are inspired by the women who wear them. We create jewelry that celebrates femininity and feels deeply personal – meant to be cherished every day and never taken off.

It’s an honor to be part of such a significant moment, and we design these pieces to highlight the brilliance of our lab-grown diamonds and vibrant gold. What are you drawn to in wedding jewelry right now? What would you like to see less of in your industry?

I’m drawn to the rise of personalized and meaningful designs – pieces that go beyond the traditional and feel deeply individual. Jewelry that’s created with sustainability in mind is also inspiring; it’s exciting to see more brands prioritizing ethical practices.

As for what I’d like to see less of, it’s the idea that fine jewelry must come at the cost of the environment or ethical labor practices. The industry has come a long way, but there’s still work to be done in making sustainable luxury the norm, not the exception.
