Behind The Brand

What was the initial spark for the property and how did it all begin?

After many years living in Barcelona, even some of those years on a family boat, where Katinka worked in the fashion industry and Massimo worked as a graphic designer and art director, they decided after getting pregnant to renovate the old inherited finca and create a place to celebrate great celebrations.

Katinka is half German and Massimo is Italian, and with their three daughters and a big crowd of animals, L’Avellana has become their very special life project and their place to be.

L’Avellana Mas d’en Cabré has its name from the hazelnut cultivation over generations from Katinka ‘s family. L’avellana is a very typical nut from Catalonia, and we love its name for its several meanings: for its design, for the nature that it represents and for its family history.

Mas d’en Cabré is the name of a huge rock, on which the house was built hundreds of years ago. In ancient times the properties were built on rocks to guarantee the stability and also the strength of the construction. Nowadays, you can still see parts of these big rocks!

Alongside 12 years, Katinka & Massimo and their great team have created with a lot of enthusiasm this unique, different and personal place where their aim is that the weddings transmit all this together with the emotion and love of each couple. They are proud to see how each wedding hosted at l’Avellana is unique and breathes the personality of the couple.

What spaces do you offer for a wedding or event?

L’Avellana Mas d’en Cabré has many ideal spaces to celebrate..

The Era is the large round welcoming square that preserves its original paving from 1736. It has become an emblematic space to welcome your guests and also for dances under the starry sky. It used to be the place where hazelnuts were harvested.

The Great Hall is a big interior room with white marble floor and has an immense recovered stone wall and large windows that will allow you to enjoy a wedding banquet bathed in natural light.

Two large banana trees provide the Rincón de la Virgen with natural shade. The name of this intimate space comes from a mural that Katinka’s grandmother created with shells from a nearby beach.

In the large Plaza de los Olivos you can enjoy the wonderful Mediterranean countryside surrounded by centuries-old olive trees. If you are looking for an open-air evening, this is the ideal place.

El Jardín de la Abuela is a charming space surrounded by an ancient stone wall, ideal for intimate weddings.

El Invernadero is undoubtedly the most alternative place in L’Avellana for its fusion of design and nature. Massimo devised a striking structure of recycled antique windows to create a unique backdrop and the large black grilles contrast with the nature that invades them.

The forest Grrreen is a very intimate and special place in the middle of the forest, very nice for ceremonies of nature loving couples, and it is also an ideal place for a relaxed brunch after the big wedding day. This forest got its name in the covid time, where we felt de Grrr (roaring) of nature to get closer to mother earth and created this little corner surrounded by amazing big trees.

Last but not least, in the middle of 65 hectares of Mediterranean nature and next to the finca you will find… CIRCUS INFINITY! A few years ago we got in love with this old circus and decided to set it up on our finca and give a new twist to the world of events.

Happy with the magic that has been created in this amazing space, we are delighted to open our doors in the middle of the forest to make you go through its winding red path and introduce you to its big vibrant bicolor tent with so much magic. CIRCUS INFINITY was born thanks to Katinka and Massimo who inaugurated it with their own wedding on 08.08.18 to celebrate after a relationship of 18 years their infinite love.

How many guests can you cater for?

We have hosted weddings, festivals, corporate and social events from 20 guests up to a maximum of 600 guests, with our multiple venue spaces adapting to the needs of each customer. The weddings we celebrate normally are between 20 and 150 guests.

What is it that makes your property magic?

The big entrance that welcomes you with the letters “Welcome To Paradise”, was inspired by all the beautiful words that our couples left us over the years. In their comments the word paradise was always the most repeated… so we decided to get it big on our entrance path and love to share this paradise with all of you. We are convinced that all the love and happiness that is celebrated in this place makes it so special and fills this corner in the mountains with its own magic and energy.

You will love the Mediterranean character with the ancient blue doors and windows in contrast with the white light of the walls and the amazing green coloured landscape.

Massimo as an italian art director, managed from the very beginning to give the finca its very own character and to highlight the treasures of the ancient building and mix them up with modern items and colors.

And last but not least, we are convinced that a dream team makes the dream work. Over the years we have selected and worked closely with great providers which are experienced professionals and above all love and enjoy their work! Welcome to Paradise and enjoy your stay!

What advice can you give couples when selecting their venue?

If you love nature and its very own special energy, and you love to mix it up with sprinkles of art and creativity, if you love the stories of past eras that the ancient buildings can tell you, if you love to celebrate the big moments of life with lots of love, emotion and glitter, let’s celebrate together in our paradise in the mountains!

We always advise couples to let their imagination free, and above all enjoy every moment of the beautiful and unique adventure of getting married. The secret is always to live, love and enjoy 110% !
