About Robert Marcillas

What started as a hobby turned into me becoming the wedding photographer I am today. And, almost without realizing, I have been sneaking into the lives of many people for almost ten years. Sharing with them one of the most important days of their lives.

Apart from seeking to improve my work, I have a restless mind that always finds room for new learning. Furthermore, I don't like molds, so I avoid typical things and trends when capturing moments.

Behind The Brand

What draws you to wedding photography?

To create timeless memories. I am moved by the thought of the couples I work for seeing their wedding pictures when being old and feeling every emotion they felt that day.

How would you describe your photography style?

My style is timeless, natural and documentary. Still, each wedding and couple makes my style change and adapt to them. My goal is also to bring out their shine, with the light that they have that unique and unrepeatable day.

What inspires you creatively?

Every form of art but above all movies and books. I love spending the time going through the pages of great photographers’ books reviewing their work and being inspired by them. I also enjoy going to the cinema and choosing the movie that might not have the best storyline but have great color and photography reviews.

I also find it very interesting to bring the art to my life. I do that by trying to find it in the everyday routines and in little details such as the process of making coffee, the purring of my cat, holding hands with my wife…

What is it that makes an image magical?

To bring out emotions. For me, a magical image is the one that moves you when you see it.

What advice would you give couples when selecting their wedding photographer?

I would tell them to check photographers work and, if the style matches with their taste, to ask themselves, “Do we see ourselves and our guests in these pictures? Can we imagine us being photographed by this photographer?”

Your dream location to shoot a wedding?

I have had many dream locations through my career. By now I have already had the opportunity to shoot weddings in UK, Portugal, Sweden, France, Mexico… And this year I will be adding New York, Paris and Italy to the list. At this moment, I am open to what is coming as I believe something better is coming than I have ever dreamed of.
