About Rosewood Little Dix Bay
Long regarded as one of the world’s greatest getaways, Rosewood Little Dix Bay is an unparalleled island escape for affluential travelers around the world. Situated across 500 acres of pristine beachfront property on Virgin Gorda, the third-largest island of the British Virgin Islands, the resort offers expertly appointed accommodations, inspired amenities, dynamic dining outlets, and bespoke services and programming.
The property has held a premier place in the hearts of travelers from around the world. After closing for a partial refurbishment in 2016 and later being entirely shattered by the effects of Hurricane Irma, amounting to a four-year, full renovation, the renowned resort reemerged to universal delight in January 2020. Retaining its original emphasis on celebrating the surrounding natural environment while introducing new elements that speak to the wants and needs of today’s travelers.
Behind The Brand
What was the initial spark for the property and how did it all begin?
A haven of tranquility, Rosewood Little Dix Bay offers an escape from the ordinary. Since 1964, guests have been captivated by this truly authentic, quintessentially Caribbean island experience.
Virgin Gorda derives its name from its distinctive shape, which is said to resemble a woman. To this day, the island remains largely undeveloped – an unspoiled paradise of lush hills, secluded coves, and breathtaking beaches, all surrounded by the clear blue waters of the Sir Francis Drake Channel.
Back in the 1950s, Virgin Gorda was still a remote island with a small agricultural community. Inspired by its untouched natural beauty, a visionary conservationist began acquiring land with the dream of creating a resort that would exist in harmony with nature. He chose a secluded crescent bay – what he called the “wilderness beach” – as the perfect setting for his eco-conscious retreat. When it opened in 1964, Little Dix Bay introduced a new style of island hospitality, with elegantly understated cottages blending seamlessly into the landscape, just steps from a pristine white-sand beach that would soon be recognized as one of the finest in the world.
In 1993, Little Dix Bay became part of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, continuing to attract generations of loyal guests drawn to its refined yet unpretentious luxury and deep respect for nature.
Following its golden anniversary, the legendary property underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation to honor its original vision. The reimagined resort maintains its commitment to preserving the island’s natural beauty, with a thoughtfully designed collection of structures that follow the contours of the landscape. Architectural elements incorporate local cultural influences and indigenous materials, while the interiors reflect the timeless elegance of the mid-century modern design movement that defined the resort’s early years.
