About Santa Monica Proper

We began with the premise that every city needs a Proper place to stay. Our hotels and residences offer bold explorations of uncommon luxury, from the elevated, unconventional interiors by Kelly Wearstler, the inspired collaborations with the city’s best and most innovative culinary and wellness partners, and the sense of immersion within the local culture.

Santa Monica Proper introduces a looser kind of luxury to Santa Monica. Here, along sun-drenched Wilshire Boulevard, within walking distance to the beach, each of the 271 rooms, suites and spaces successfully optimize the city’s abundant ocean breezes and natural light, while the interior design finds inspiration in the organic tones and textures of the local coastline.

Behind The Brand

What rooms/spaces do you have available for a wedding?

Santa Monica Proper Hotel features over 24,000 sq ft of spaces including our Canela Ballroom accompanied by a residentially styled pre-function space. Our second floor outdoor Olea Terrace is perfect for ceremonies and the Converge or Clabra Lounge are dedicated spaces for intimate weddings of 20 to 40 people.

How many people can each of these cater for?

The maximum seated capacity with the dance floor in Canela Ballroom is 226. We’d recommend 180 as ideal for ceremony and reception.

Do you offer onsite accommodation?

Yes! We have 271 guest rooms and 22 suites.

What additional features and facilities does your venue offer that couples may find useful?

Our Calabra Rooftop for welcome receptions or brunches along with our Surya Spa and rooftop pool – residential oasis, fitness center, three bars, and restaurants.

What type of couple would fall in love with your venue and why?

The creative and design-forward, those inspired by California and coastal living.

Editor’s Notes

Why we love it…

Luxury, drenched in the Californian sun, walking distance to the beach with interior designs by Kelly Wearsler taking inspiration from the local coastline and original artworks from emerging and established LA artists. A one of kind setting artfully curated blending the 1920’s era with contemporary architecture.

For the couple…

Who love restrained elegance, organic textures and neutral color palettes, looking for an all in one venue that is modern, urban and has the area’s only rooftop pool deck with ocean views.

Styling tips…

Take the sophistication of the interior styling as a starting point and personalize your floral and stationery to complement the color palette.
