Behind The Brand

Your best pieces of advice for event planning?

Stick to your own style. It’s easy to get caught up in trends, then it all gets too much and becomes overwhelming. Creating a wedding day based on what you both love and truly want, will make all the planning fun and not daunting.

Hire Professionals.

It’s never too early to start planning.

Don’t be afraid to cull the guest list, for many of my couples this is one of the biggest dilemmas. Think about who you share most of your time with, who you really enjoy being around and go from there, be true.

Enjoy the planning and lead up, it’s about the whole wedding experience. Enjoy all the festivities, the fittings & the emotions. The day will come and go in a heartbeat, so don’t sweat the small stuff, it’s just small stuff, and enjoy the ride.

What was the spark for The Wildflower Perth? Where did the story begin?

I have forever been creative growing up. When I was 14 I did work experience in a few florists, and at 15 I left school and started my full-time career in floristry. This included 4 certificates, 4 years of trainee wages, Tafe, private floral school and working at several different florist shops around Perth, which lead to purchasing my first florist shop with my father at age 21.

It was then, becoming my own boss, the creativity really flowed. Over the last 10 years I have designed too many amazing weddings to count, involved with many Perth designers for the fashion scene, high-end events, crazy house florals, charity exhibitions, art exhibitions and the list goes on.

The last four years have seen the beginning of my floral art prints, capturing the moment of my florals just as they’re created in my habitat, something I am really excited about working on. My days now see me focusing on my high end daily florals, events and all of the weddings!

What inspires you creatively?

Everything is an inspiration, right? I appreciate many different creatives, photographers, artists, chefs, winemakers, designers.. Gee my barista (and partner) inspire me. I’m inspired by people who love what they do, simple as that.

Most memorable place you’ve travelled?

India. The colours, the smells, the culture. The number of male florists!!! There was a wedding at my hotel and about 15 male florists doing the floral install, it was brilliant!!

Also, the strongest long island ice teas I have ever had in my life.

South Africa is a very close second. Food, Wine, Safari.

On a typical weekend we’ll find you?

Creating Magical Weddings, followed by all of the natural wines. Followed by Sunday’s at North Cottesloe with My Man, our dalmatian, our friends and more wine.
