About White November
White November was founded for those who adore otherworldly jewellery that is not only beautiful, but is also infused with deep symbolic meaning designed to transcend generations and to be treasured forever. Based in Melbourne, Australia, and crafted using traditional handcraft techniques, there’s a power of celestial proportions with an underlying softness encapsulated in each piece. All designs are meticulously handcrafted using ethically sourced diamonds and gemstones, along with precious metals of gold and platinum. White November has now become synonymous with memories of heartfelt moments, created to be cherished forever and become a family heirloom passed down to daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
Behind The Brand
Where are your gemstones and diamonds sourced from?
All the gemstones used at White November are sourced from local miners and trusted suppliers who have been in the jewelry industry for generations. The way in which the gemstones are sourced is very important to us, and one of the reasons our gems are so special is because the suppliers we use adopt ethical and conflict-free practices to source gems. Our suppliers have incredible industry experience dating back decades, and those skills and expertise have been passed down the family. This is very unique, because you can have a supplier where the father is the miner, the mother is a gemologist and the daughter is the master gem cutter. There is a special relationship that is formed with suppliers, and they always ensure we receive the right stone for our projects.
In Late 2019, our master designer visited a town called Sapphire in Queensland, and this is where most of the sapphires in the White November range are from. It was incredible for our head creative to witness the whole process first hand and gain an insight into how these beautiful gems are mined, as well as how the environment is protected and cared for. Another important aspect was overseeing the working conditions for the staff members to ensure they were safe and working in supportive environments, which is something we really stand by at White November.
Do you offer a custom design service? If so, how long does it take to make a custom piece?
Yes, we absolutely do! It takes around four to six weeks to complete a custom design. We really love to educate and guide our customers to help them select the right gemstones for their vision. We recently created “Gem School” – an information session released every fortnight on our Instagram stories. The latest Gem School lesson can be found on our Instagram highlights here.
This helps customers make informed and educated decisions and demystifies some of the terminology and meaning behind the stones. We love to find gems that have special symbolism, working with heirloom gems and stones of significance. We also provide consultations virtually from anywhere around the world for custom designs.
What is your most popular piece?
I would have to say the Toi et Moi design – a ring made with two stones that are set next to each other without ever touching. This dual stone ring is a great way to get lots of sparkle on your hand . The fine band and the clean minimal setting really let the beauty of the chosen stones speak for themselves. Finding two gemstones that match and complement each other in terms of size and colour can be a challenge, although we always find the perfect pair. It can be created in any metal or with any gem, but right now we are loving the champagne stones for this design. The very first one we created held two argyle champagne diamonds. This ring is a strong symbol of romance and love. Toi et Moi – meaning ‘you and me’ in French – may be some of the most romantic and simple words someone could hear from a loved one. We really love creating this ring!
What advice would you give to a couple looking for their wedding jewelry?
I would suggest selecting a diamond or sapphire for engagement rings due to their durability. Diamonds are regarded as a 10/10 for hardness, while sapphires are 9/10, making them a great choice for everyday wear. Although, if another gemstone such as an emerald is your heart’s desire, you just need to be more cautious, and ensure the ring design protects the gemstone in a delicate and considered way.
In terms of selecting a certain design or gemstone, as with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find the right one.
What tips do you have for couples to care for their jewelry?
Always take off your jewellery when you get home by keeping a little dish somewhere near the door, so you can easily put them back on again when you leave the house. It’s also important to have your jewellery regularly serviced to prevent claws wearing down and avoid stones falling out or becoming loose – especially after any accidental knocks!
And to make it shine it’s brightest, get your jewellery cleaned and polished by a professional at least once every six months – if you can’t manage it that often, use warm, soapy water and a soft, clean toothbrush to freshen up the setting, finished off with a polishing cloth.
